I haven't seen any of them either.

But did anyone actually see house of the dead? Did they really use clips from the video game? That's...really bad.

I just saw Underworld on Friday on DVD, and I rather enjoyed it. True, there are plot holes... but name an action film that doesn't have at least one plot hole. For a slick, stylish action flick with attractive people... this was pretty decent. Not worthy of a "Worst of" list IMO.

underworld was what it was. it was fun and i enjoyed it. most people i know enjoyed it. if you are looking for a mind blowing movie experience you should look elsewhere. if you just wanna see kick ass werewolves, some weak vampires, and a lot of guns then you should check out underworld. oh, kate beckinsale in tight ass leather pants. thumbs up. WAY up. ;cap;

ps. lxg was ass but i was a huge fan of the comic. everyone i know who read the comic hated the movie, the people i know who hadnt read the comic were split 50/50 between thinking it stupid entertainment or total excrement.

I liked Underworld and it's story twists. It was pretty good. The only part I didn't like were the Spice Girl poses Kate Beckwhatever made every time she fired her gun.

I dont know why Underworld got a bad rap. i finally watched it last night. as far as monster movies go it was pretty damn good.

People are getting too spoiled and expecting everything they see to be the next LOTR or SPIDERMAN

I agree totally. We should all just learn to be satisfied with low-quality movies, since not every movie is going to be good anyway. Better to just not hold the movie industry to a high standard and force ourselves to enjoy crappy movies, since we're lucky to be allowed to see them to begin with.

Definitely. What Underworld was able to do with just 20 million dollars(it made 60 mill at the box office) was damn impressive. The use of practical effects was great as well. The werwolves scaling the walls was actually filmed. I'm so used to certain effects being done in CG, I was convinced that that was how it was done. Not to mention Selene's jump at the beginning of the film.

I thought the story was interesting enough, and yeah, there are holes, but should I let that keep me from enjoying the film when it's get so many things in its favor? Beckinsale in black leather firing guns, great make-up effects for the lycans and especially Viktor, not to mention Michael Sheen as Lucien, just a total badass. The movie was definitely better than most critics gave it credit for.

i watch old ass kung-fu movies that i can get from $2 to $15 i don't expect a lot from action movies, but i rarely watch them in the theatres. i expect to be scared at horrer movies and to be challenged mentally by dramas (not as in puzzles but in character relations).
i'm actually rarely pissed off at bad movies, unless they're adaptions then i have high expectations. i understand that movies are an artform for the most part, and the 2 hours of flicking pictures is akin to two hours in the louvre at a particular artist's exhibit. the fun thing with movies is that it's a dozen or more people's art work with two or three more dozen helpin' out. no movie is meant to please everyone (on an artistic level, not corporate) so i figure if a movie's bad then oh well at least it was an experience with my friends (i've never been to the theatre without other people)
and if you think you're entitled to an experience tailored for you since you paid your 8 bucks, think about how much even bad movies earn, your ticket is nothing to them.

well i will watch LXG and the Hulk one day just to see them. hell i even plan on watching Gigli, but not paying to do so.

The thing with LXG is it's not only based on one of my favortie author's pet projects, but that all the characters are based directly from actual literary characters that are classic and should be handled carfully. I think Moore did an excellent job with their characterizations, but then i've only experienced a few of them. I just hope the movie is at least true to their literary personalities if not their comic book ones...if that makes sense...which it doesn't really...ah well i'm half asleep and plead the 35th

Don't expect that much from it. It's an okay popcorn movie, but it really has little to do with the Alan Moore work and even less to do with the source materials. If you go in expecting to see Sean Connery kick ass and not much more, you might not be disappointed. Otherwise, unless you're able to remove any connection to the comic from your head, you're bound to feel let down.

i just watched underworld. i'm actually pretty satisfied because i was expecting a flaming car wreck. i wouldn't say it was good, but definately passable. it did have its moments.

i guess the moral is: set your standards low and be pleasantly surprised.

Thats not what i was getting at.
What i did mean was that critics today are quicker to give a decent movie a crappy review simply because it wasnt the best thing they have seen all year.

if a movie is shit, its shit, but alot of reviewers these days are more interested in writing a funny sarcastic review then saying .. yeah i didnt hate this.

id love nothing more then to go see a fantastic movie every time i put my ass in a theatre seat, but a little common sense tells me thats never going to happen

The other day, I decided that there are enough good music, good movies, good books, and good comics out there in the world that I've never partaken of that I shouldn't have to take a bite out of a shit sandwhich ever again.

That said, I saw a lot of movies on this list last year. Underworld, House of the Dead (:( ), LXG... I wasted my money on all of these. House of the Dead is even worse than this review makes it out to be. It is seriously the worst movie I've ever seen, and I shit you not, over half the audience left the theater. The only reason we didn't walk out is because I have to drive 30 god damn miles to see a movie.

It's a little embarrasing, but the only movie on that list that I saw was "From Justin and Kelly." I didn't pay for it, nor did I make the descision to watch it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I really want to see Gigli, just to see WHY it's the worst movie ever made.

Oh man!

I can't agree with this guy enough.

I hated all of those movies. Damn not one of those was a "ah come on it wasn't that bad" movie.

i've gotta say- the only time i don't mind seeing a bad movie is when i'm going to write a review for it (i'm a writer for omaha's alternative weekly). indirectly, i get paid to see the movies. unfortunately, none of the movies on the list were reviewed this year (though scary movie 3 should've been on there) and i wasted tons of money on bad stuff.

but this was a fantastic year for movies as a whole and i'm fairly happy with my list of viewings.

but gothika did suck lots of man meat.

Just saw LXG, and let me first say that I did not read the comic. I found it to be entertaining. I did have a problem with totally ignoring Vampire conventions (Mina standing outside in the sun really bothered me). But it was what it tried to be. An entertaining action film with a unique cast of characters. Again, IMO not worthy of being on a worst of list.

Exactly. There are so many films that are better than the reviews they've gotten from critics. It's like there's no middle ground. Either the movie is the best thing since sliced bread, or it's crap. Now don't get me wrong, there are plenty of movies in recent years that were more than deserving of their bad reviews, but I think there's a clear divide between critics who will slam a movie that isn't perfect and the moviegoers who like or even love those films.

Phil Clark

I never pay attention to what the critics say. If anything, I wait until friends who have similar tastes in movies see a flick, then see what they say about it. But generally, I just see what I want to see, and screw what the critics say. After all, it's my money. If I want to plonk it down on a movie, that is my choice.

Hell, I may even rent the Cat in the Hat when it comes out on DVD. ;)

I have only seen two on the list, them being Underworld and League...
I liked Underworld. It was just a fun movie. It was far from a life altering movie, but then again, I don't expect too many divine interventions from movies featuring leading ladies in tight leather.

League was not really a movie for anyone who knows the literary characters or the comic. As a seperate movie, it is just an action packed special effects feast. I expected too much from this (like I did with Sleepy Hollow).

I don't expect every movie to be a top ten movie and I try to go into a theatre with realisitc expectations. As for bad movies anyhow, they are just fun to watch and poke fun of with friends. Bad movies equally have their place in our lives so that we have something to compare the great ones to.

Cheers.

on 2 fast 2 furious, that movie was pretty good, had me laughing the whole time. even though the acting wasn't the best, film was still pretty good.

Hate to drag up an old bit, but I just watched Underworld and I liked it. It did two things that made it worth watching, 1) It took itself seriously and 2) Wasn't plagued with one liners.

The action was decent and I'm a big "oo, what if vampires and werewolves were at war" kind of dude anyway, so I enjoyed it. It makes me think of other stories of what could be and that's always good.

Right?

Underworld blew goats big time. Not only was it a copy of the Matrix, but it had every bad cliche that it assciated with the crappy goth lifestyle.

I would have liked Underworld a lot lot lot LOT better if they had just paid attention to Vampire powers. There were so many vampire faux pas. I guess thats what I get for going as a vampire fan. Bleh. Reflections.
