View Full Version : Getting noticed?

Am I doing something wrong? I've posted some art to be critiqued and nobody even gives me the time of day. Is this a regular thing here for newbies? Am I just wasting my time posting my art? I've been to a few other art boards and I just keep getting ignored and it seems like I'm getting the same thing here. Am I mistakenly posting in someone's exclusive club of artists or what? Is this silent treatment your subtle way of telling me to leave?

This happens to everyone initially. It's going to take a little while to really get noticed, unfortunately. Sometimes you'll post something that really grabs the people, and it will get a lot of replies. Sometimes posts slip through the cracks, even for more established members.

We're not an exclusive community, no, and we gladly welcome new faces. But we are a community, and sometimes we get wrapped up in ourselves. I would suggest browsing the other forums. Find a conversation in General Discussion that interests you. Talk about your favorite comics or artists. Find out what other people are interested in. Find artists you like, PM or e-mail them to tell them personally that you appreciate them. They might be more inclined to look for your name when they scan through the forums.

I promise you none of this is personal, and it happens to everyone.

*sigh* Well, I guess that clears things up. Thanks.

I suppose I'll try sticking around a little longer. It's just frustrating to the point of tears getting the same silent treatment at just about every other art board I went to. Went to Megatokyo - ignored. Toonzone - little to no responses. Here - once again, ignored. I'm starting to get burned on getting any serious critiques from the online artists' community and am this |<--->| close to just giving up.

Draw like Erik Larsen... worked for me.

That's not entirely true. Englert has a natural 20 charisma without modifier. His Glamour of Cuomo only adds +2 to that. You can't help but like him.

I have three tips for you.

#1, post your art directly in the thread instead of doing the clever thing and posting thumbnails that link to larger images. Most people are lazy and either will not realize that the image in the thread is a link, or just choose not to click it. It is great that you can do that, but remember the K.I.S.S rule. (No, not "I wanna rock and roll all night, and party every day") Keep It Simple, Silly.

#2, be patient. You have posted 7 times here. Only 4 of those posts contained art. It takes time for people to notice you and your work (although following tip #1 will help speed that).

#3, offer well thought out comments on other peoples art. People are more likely to help you if you help them. And you will find yourself learning from the critiques you give.

Do these, and continue to be patient, and you will get critiques.

Just do what I do, give the mods a run for their money!

Then people will flock to you like sheep.

:D

More like people will treat you like something to be scraped off the bottom of your shoes. ;)

Now I think you are just post padding. If you want to reply to Juan, please do so through a pm. There is no point in using up a whole thread just to have a conversation. I am now going to close this thread.

*HOT DAMN I SHOULD BE A MOD!*

Well, the thing was, I was trying to be considerate of non-high-speed users. Therefore, I figured thumbnails would load the fastest and still show enough of the picture to garner attention. That way, like in my sketch thread, I wouldn't be dumping images, as it says not to do in the rules. So should I just start a thread for each and every image? Should I resize all my images smaller and at lower quality?

I would limit yourself to two images per thread, and go ahead and post them at full size (or at least at say 500-800 pixels wide, maximum). Or at the very least, explain to people that they need to click the thumbnails to see the full images.

As I said, people tend to be lazy and don't always realize that you are showing them a thumbnail. I didn't at first.

Okey doke. I realize I should have noted they were thumbnails in the first place. Thanks for the input.
