OK PJ Writer-types…

It is time for us to begin doing some things here to help each other break into this business of Comic Book.

The Pitch.

This could be the highest percent “Make or Break” thing for aspiring writers such as ourselves. If you are unfamiliar with a comic book pitch, which is really just the name given to a document sent to an editor to try to get them to be interested in your brainchild, then go [url=http://www.comicbookresources.com/columns/index.cgi?column=cia&article=255]here to find out some important information about “Pitching” to an editor. I think that if you haven’t already read this, your eyes will be wide open as to how important a good pitch can be.

So… this is what I am proposing and I would like to get some feedback before making this some kind of “project” or something.

I want us to work on some pitches and then C&C each other’s work and see how we can help each other grow in this very critical area. Now, I think most of you are like me and thinking “Dang, I don’t know what an editor is looking for to Crit a pitch.” Well… fear not. Together we shall be able to collectively figure it out… The one thing that I do know that EVERY editor wants is a very well written, concise and intriguing “pitch” to read. Now, if it’s about writing well, helping to manage length and adding spice to a short bit of writing… well I DEFINITELY think that we can help each other do that!

So… this is my idea and I would like to get feedback on this from you guys (and girls!)

Start with something that we ALL know… I’m thinking that we pick two KNOWN characters like Batman and Spider-Man and start practicing out pitch writing a pitch for these characters as if these characters were not yet in existence. In this way, we can help each other spruce up our pitches because we all know the subject matter (even though we are treating it as if we don’t) I suggest two characters (maybe even add in Wolverine) for a bit of variety and in case you just can’t stand one of them.

We can then do a revised pitch of the characters and move up to pitching some of the PJU characters that we came up with (eons) ago… (one, they are somewhat known by all of us yet VERY wide open as they are really little more than mini-pitches as they are) or even collectively developing a character and writing pitches. Then graduate to pitching our own ideas (for those willing to post them on a public forum)

What do you all think?

Cool

I need to work on this so badly it's killing me :D

So, any suggestions about how we should go about this project? I've tossed out an idea but let's not just go with that. I'd like to get some input about how you might think we could best go about this learning experience so that this project is 'our' project not "something handed down from on high" or something.
