Does anyone have any suggestions as to what other exercises etc they'd like to see on thewritersdesk?
I know Ven is in the midst of preparing the "pitch" exercises so that cld be both fun and beneficial.
Let's have some suggestions folks!

I've personally always liked the idea of each writer having one character within a story, covering only what they say and do. No idea how the heck one would organize that, but it's what popped into my head first.
Let's see... I would like to see something with script (just because I want to get better at those). Maybe a story round-like concept where each person writes one page.
Anyway, those are my wacky ideas, do with them what you will. :)

hmmmm...
the one character thing mite be a bit tough to organise, as you've said. Hmmmm... me thinks on it...
I was thinking (after the conversion of the Triangle into a script somehow), the next story round will involve a script, rather than prose.
anything else you need to see?

I don't know what I voted for... I think Horror
anyway...
I've tried to do a story round before with a comic book script where you could write a page or two (basically, write a scene in a comic book) I really liked my starte page and have wanted it to take off. It was a spider-man story, though it could really be anyone of the marvel heroes in the Manhattan area.

or a mix of genres
sci-fi thriller (Star Wars)
romantic western (any John Wayne)
horror comedy (Scream)
sci-fi western (my pick) (Firefly)
romantic superhero (Daredevil)
comedy mystery (Deathtrap)
combinations are not limitless but would be more interesting to pump up skill levels than just straight Asimovian sci-fi or something.

I participated in a similar concept a couple of months ago on Digital Webbing where the moderator posted the basic idea and then everyone writes their own version of the first scene or page. There was a one week deadline ( Similar to Critical Mass's projects) and then the group voted for the best submission. The next week's project then uses the favorite as a jumping off point. In this way every person gets to participate on all pages and gets more writing practice. I thought this was a pretty good system.
BTW, I voted Horror but I wouldn't mind doing any genre - other than superhero ( I'm little burnt on that area).

The mixed genre idea is really interesting because of the expaned possibilities. I would definitely be onboard for something like that.
I'm currently working on a 5 page script for Sam Spade that combines war and mythic/supernatural ( think Sandman). Really adds some spice to the pot.

(smonks mike for the soft porn idea)
Hmm... xadrian does have a very intriguing idea.... it wld be a very good exercise to get your hands (or fingers in this case) on experience with all those genres...
hmmm.... does sci fi comedy work? ROFL.. now THAT wld be funny.... think Red Dwarf... ok.. I think that English ppl might understand that one LOL ok, I know I am not Engllish but.. I watch english comedy.. I just cant spell it.... I am tired, I hvnt had much sleep over the last few nights (get your mind of the gutter some of u!) my youngest boy has been teething BAD and they've both got running noses.. so I am not quite there...... not that I ever was.. but hey...
anyways..... sounds like another idea or two to think abt xadrian and Ike.
cooool beans!!!!

That should be lots of fun.
I think it's a good choice for our first cross-genre piece.
When do we start?

I couldn't get into the last one because it was prose and fantasy. But script and sci-fi/horror? Count me in.

Well, gang, here's the deal.
SCI-FI HORROR IT IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
However, before we begin, I wld like a volunteer to "pilot" this story-round. CAll it 'editorial' experience.
Like I did with the Triangle one, you get some background done, keep an eye on things etc etc. I'm gng to be taking care of the Triangle's script conversion exercise so it wld be great if someone else cld "come to the fore!"
After it's all over, just send me the full (edited if poss) story round and I will place it up as a webpage :D
Ok, volunteers?

I voted for Sci-Fi, I'll take a crack at it. In fact, I'll give up my scripting bid on Triangle to get this going.
