View Full Version : Is Polaris dead?

In Uncanny X-Men #426, Polaris went on a rampage and konked out basically every mutant at her wedding when Havok decided not to marry her. Later on, Juggernaut appears and knocks her out. She's not seen for the rest of the issue. Then I read a review of the next issue, #427, where Jubilee and Husk cope with the death of a team mate. Would this be Polaris, who may have been killed for her behavior, or maybe Iceman, who she seriously messed up.
Wait, on second thought, Skin just died, didn't he? And both Jubilee and Husk were in Gen X...Maybe that's who they're talking about...Can someone please tell me who this team mate is?
Also, who were the mutants killed by the Friends of Humanity? I know there was Skin, Magma, and Jesse Bedlam, but who else was there with them? And if Magma's dead, how could she be appearing in a newer issue of New Mutants?

It was skin who died. I think it was just him that died. All the rest were brought back to life, I think. I didn't really recognize the others though. Yeah, they really didn't deal with what happened to polaris after she got hit by the tree.

I'm holding issue #426 in my hands now, where Jubes and Husk are talking, and they seem kinda happy. This is where I thought they were talking about Iceman dying. The conversation goes liek this:
HUSK: "...Knocking us all out in an instant."
HUSK: "She probably could have killed us all, but didn't."
JUBES: "It's scary that she's that strong, Paige."
JUBES: (Here's the part) "Why not Bobby, though?"
JUBES: "I mean, I understand Alex, but--"
HUSK: "I don't know, Jubilee."
HUSK: "Maybe in spite of everything she said, she does still care for Bobby."
What the heck does all this mean???!!!!!
Also, about Skin, I though he was the only one who died, but in the "Previously in Uncanny X-Men" thingie, it said Jubes was the only one to survive. Based on the unclarity (Is that a word) of the story, and of these quotes I have here, maybe Chuck Austen's been sniffing a little glue recently...

Uggh. Uncanny is so far away from where it once was. It makes absolutely no sense, the artwork is atrocious, including the covers, and the characters just don't mean anything to me anymore. I didn't like Austen's work on Elektra, either. Then, I read New X-Men and it's like going back home again, even though it too is so far away from where it once was. At least Morrison keeps it interesting and the interchanging of talent like Jimenez, Quitely and Bachalo makes it even more fun to read.

Yeah, I don't really like Chuck Austen, or the art of Ron Garney or Phillip Tan, but New X-Men kinda bugs me, too. I have every single New X-Men graphic novel, and I don't like how in the first graphic novel, the atrocious art of Frank Quitely is used, but then by the third graphic novel, Quitely's gone, and every issue has a different artist. Then Frank Quitely comes back every so often and does an issue. I don't really like either of the books, but I read them anyway, just cuz they're X-Men, sad enough. Also, why'd they change the X-Men book's name to New X-Men? I understand they're different in the new issues, but it's the same in Uncanny, and that name hasn't changed.

Yeah, see I'm kind of screwed up because I read 426 after 427. I thought 427 kind of sucked, so I didn't read it very carefully.
As far as the conversation, in 426 when alex left her at the alter, polaris reversed the blood flow to everyone with powers except, Alex, Bobby(iceman) and Annie's son. Which left Annie and Juggernaut awake too, because they have no 'powers'. It doesn't explain how or why she only knocked out people with powers and not every one. When she says "Why not Bobby, though?" she is asking why he wasn't knocked out. It is worded really weird when you look at it like that though.
I'd bet the reason they keep bringing it up is because of bobby's chest injury. I don't really remember what happened, I think it was when they fought black tom he had a hole in his chest, and It "scarred' over with ice instead of skin, so she couldn't reverse his blood flow. In 426 they say something about ice and magnetism.

No way! Bobby was the most messed up out of all of them! Polaris said that there's metal in everything--especially water. Then she reversed his blood flow and konked him out. He was bleeding and everything. Has he appeared in any other issues after 426?

Ultimate X-Men's the only damn X-book worth reading nowadays (aside from X-Statix, apparently...which I don't read for some reason...I think it's because I don't think I'm cool enough)

Ultimate X-Men?! Don't get me started. It's just what we need, another X-Men book! And I'm not talking about a spin-off, I mean a book with the title "X-Men" in the name. Uncanny was good enough by itself, but now there's Uncanny, New X-Men, X-Treme X-Men, and Ultimate, a lame attempt to get people to read an X-book who know nothing of Marvel continuity? I dunno...

Ultimate X-Men is par excellence. Bendis has me really interested so far, and it's only been two issues, but I'm not really liking the Finch artwork.
But, I disagree with you. Currently, I'm really into New X-Men, too.

yeah, you're right... clear concise story, great artwork, and a breath of fresh air into old, stale characters? what was I thinking ?!? Jeez, maybe I should stop reading ULTIMATES, as it's just a lame attempt to get me to read an Avengers book since I don't know what color Thor's poop was in issue #24 when he shat upon the golden throne of Mughlogodiroore...
by the way, if you get confused by a comic book... a relatively poor one at that... maybe it's time to seek some help. Those short yellow buses you see on the road? just flag one of them down and hop aboard...

I dunno, it's like, why read an alternate reality version of a comic when in the regular Marvel universe there's 3 X-Men books already? I could understand someone who jusr stated reading comics or got back into reading comics reading an Ultimate book, but when you really know what's goin' on in the X-Men comics, there's really no point in reading an Ultimate book.

Because what IS going on in the regular X-Men's continuity is convulted clutter-f*ck.

Well, basically, Hazard, yeah. I mean, usually X-Men and Uncanny would have intertwining plots or different characters for each book, but now the same characters are in the same books, and the plots don't mix. Like when Polaris got married in Uncanny, they were solving Emma Frost's murder in New X-Men. Also, now in Uncanny, Wolvie's wearing the same uniform as he does in Ultimate. I wonder why that is? Maybe the regular Marvel U and the Ultimate U aren't so different after all?...

Ultimate X-Men was a casualty of my miniscule budget - though Bendis being on it sorely tempted me - but I'm stuck with New X-Men until Morrison leaves. Thank goodness he's DC exclusive; now I can go back to my no-X-books policy and be one of the cool comicbook readers again.

Yeah, Anja was really hard to deal with after Xander dumped her at the altar. You see the episode with the spider-things that ate peoples hearts? That sure was a dramatic moment when Buffy said she was going to have to kill Anja for turning back into a vengeance demon. She didn't die until the series finale, though.
Oh wait, I'm in the totally wrong forum.

The only X books I read now are New X-Men and X-Statix. Why? Because they don't refer to all sorts of continuity. They just tell stories in clearly defined arcs. It's good writing and plus, Mike Allred draws X-Statix.

Here's another question--Is Grant Morrison the next Chris Claremont? I heard someone ask this before, and I wondered what you people think of this. First off, when both of them signed on to write for X-Men, they discarded years of continuity to bring each book into new directions. They also both have been writing for their books for way too long: Claremont wrote 200 straight issues of Uncanny before leaving them, and Morrison has been working on New X-Men for much longer than I wished he would (By the way, is Grant gonna leave New X-Men anytime soon? That would rule, I guess). The only difference is I liked Claremon'ts early stuff, while I think anything written by Morrison for X-Men can be ignored.

You're obviously trolling for some sort of argument, but I feel that Morrison is the best thing that happened to New X-Men(X-Men). The comic hadn't really been that great once Chris Claremont left it(#3). So, basically, we had roughly 110 issues that were sometimes sorta good, sometimes just okay, and sometimes mortifying. Nicieza was alright, but not great; Lobdell really wasn't that good; Waid didn't stay long enough to make an impression, and neither did Kelly. Even once Claremont came back(#100), it just didn't work anymore. He had been gone too long and had really lost hold of the characters. Grant Morrison was the first writer who made the X-Men seem like REAL adults. And then to top it off, you still got the cosmic adventures and such. Hell, Morrison was the first writer who actually had me frightened while reading an X-Men issue.
Morrison is the only reason I buy the current New X-Men trades. The only drawback currently is they can't find a PERMANENT artist for the comic.

If you'd read my previous post, you would have seen that Morrison is indeed leaving the book soon; I believe he's now exclusive to DC Comics.

It may be good that Grant Morrison is leaving, but I hope they don't replace with some mediocre subpar writer who can't deliver with a good story. Actually, I'm looking forward to having Marc Silvestri back on the book. I loved his stuff in the late 80's on Uncanny, so this storyline'll rule! I think Grant's writing these stories, so I can't wait to see how they turn out.
