This looks so damn cool. (http://web.media.mit.edu/~jpatten/newaudiopad.html) It's the sort of thing that looks like it belongs in some sort of sci-fi film, not in the mundane world, yet there it is...

It's going to look even cooler when someone gets around to combining the projector and the interface plate so that it's backlit and self-contained.

I wonder what the applications for the technology might be, past the musical instument. I mean, coul you adapt this to work in other ways for human-technology interfaces?

Yeah, I know, but I think the tactile sensation is part of the process here. I don't doubt, thought, that the natural evolution of this music would be a software/touchscreen interface.
