FTP server questions

Does anyone know jack about FTP servers? more specifically, can you recommend a free one to be used by a computer illiterate monkey?

I was using CuteFTP Pro, and it worked like a charm. However, since it costs money, I let the free trial expire. I've then tried a couple others, like CoffeeCup dircect FTP and WAR FTP, and it's really messed up my website.

so what do you guys use, the ones that use and ftp server? is it worth buying a license for Cute FTP, or is there a free alternative that you don't have to know how to program in basic to be able to use?

I think you are looking for FTP client rather than server.

if you are looking for freewares, try search on this site (http://www.freewarehome.com/). I really can't tell you which one works better though. You gonna have to try them yourself.

Do you mean FTP Client? I'll give you info on both since I run a personal fileserver. On the fileserver I run G6 Bulletproof FTP. For an FTP client, I use a copy of CuteFTP trial. It's a few years old...when the timelimit ran out it just put a banner at the top which doesn't limit it's abilities at all.

i think you must me talking about a client, which you use to connect to the server, rather than the server itself.

i've used WS_FTP on this machine ever since i started using the internet. it's simple as hell, free if you say you're a student, and has yet to let me down.

it does time out your connections more quickly than Cute FTP, and it can't resume partial up/downloads, and the program isn't as pretty, but it gets the job done for me.
