Well, here I have some pages from a small mini-series I'm doing for a small publisher called Griot Comics (http://www.griotcomics.com)

The comic is called Canton Kid and hopefully it'll come out in a couple months...I've just finished the 4 issues i was hired to do.

I can't say I'm totally happy with the pages, it's been somewhat of a challenge to work from the script, I try to show exactly what the writer has in the script but, from a visual storytelling point of view, it sometimes wouldnt look good, so i try to meet somewhere in the middle of what the script says and doing what i think looks good. The writer gave me lots of freedom, he didn't ask me to change much. I have a big problem though with the first panel on page 21 where the character (Dragon Ling) jumps from right to left...people i show it to think he's jumping backwards left to right. but i couldnt figure a good way to reverse the panel without reversing the other pages. I'm not used to drawing for color and i tried to ease up on my hatching so as to not make things look too muddy.

**** it's basically a huge fight between the main characters and a bunch of giant wolf monsters..(one who's just a floating decapitated head)****

tell me what ya think... i hope the storytelling is clear.

Wow....

I have never replied on any of your work before...and I guess to put it simply, I love it. To me it is a real inspiration, and the clarity in your pages is something I push for everytime I do sequentials, but sometimes I get caught up with inks and all.

The only problems I really have with the pages is a panel with the scene in it, but you probably have already done one of those but not posted it...
that and the 3rd page shown; second and third panels are too sudden, the pacing is kinda f-ed up in other words. I really like the pacing of the story except that part.

I will be looking forward to seeing this on the shelves.

Dude!

Stop hiding behind Amy and post more often! :D

Really, I remembered the color test you did on Canton Kid a little while ago and it looked great. These pages loof even better.

I know artists hate to be compared to other artists, but I have to say this. I get the same feeling looking at your pages that I do when I look at EJ's pages. That is meant to be a compliment of the HIGHEST caliber. Good job and keep us poste on publication etc.

Good pages, I like the style is a realistic manga influenced (like Akira comic) and not too Dragon Ball style.

Drawing from a given script is more difficult,I know and you're lucky the writer gave you freedom to change something.

The page looks really professional to me: good use of camera angles and very good dynamic action panels.

Good work indeed, Bravo!:)

Its looks pretty interesting. Alot of action going on. I dont see whats so confusing about panel 1 on page 21, the speed lines on his legs in the first part of the jump make it look pretty clear to me thats he started his jump on the right side of the page. Besides who jumps backwards anyways?

it's all good!!!

forget about that story line and representing character motion stuff. A powerful nija-like guy is beating the hell out of some magical demon wolves. The message is crystal clear man :)

Your setting, characters, and actions are all represented well...and it looks great!

thanks all, i sincerely appreciate the comments.

Mighty Matt -- I totally agree with your comment, but that''s exactly how the script went, i personally would have added 2 more panels, but theres only so much room on a page.

Devin -- Thanks you're awesome too

Wolfprime -- hiding? i'm not hiding... i'm just...errr...::runs away::

Caimano -- thanks, i need to get used to working from someone else scripts, i think my art is a lot stronger than my writing so i think i'll be working with writers for most of my future projects

Spidey --- ya think so? ok thanks, yeah who the hell jumps backwards?

brendon -- hehe, yeah come to think of it, martial art guys and big wolves need no explanation...

This is really great. Love the style and storytelling. Really awesome stuff

Reminds of Miyazaki a bit. Beyond the depatitated wolf heads even, the thin line style and dynamic layout are reminescent too.
