View Full Version : Why are people stupid?

Just a quick vent:

I went to a birthday party today for my wife's niece and nephew(twins) and after the party was over, we were hanging out and this guy who was a friend of my sister-in-law stayed after everyone else left. Some financial advisor rich prick. He had two boys and they were playing with water guns outside on the deck and causing alot of problems(spraying the adults and what not). So, my oldest son and his twin cousins were drawing at a table across the deck, basically being good. So, when the father of the two rabble-rousers finally got fed up with his boys, do you know what he said to them?

He said, and I quote:

"Hey, stop that and come over here and do girl stuff like drawing."

I almost had an aneurism. This rich prick, who spends roughly $1500 a month to put his kids in some Montessori private school is calling drawing "girl stuff?" Does he think his money goes towards his boys learning auto mechanics and wood shop? At a private school?

Of course, as my sister-in-law looks at me, smiling nervously, with a look like, "Please don't say anything," I gritted my teeth, complied, and kept my mouth shut. She's lucky we were at her house.

Stupid ass people.

Drawing is better than other girl stuff.

...Like menstruating.

I'm sure he musn't have really thought drawing is for girls. That's just too stupid. More likely, he was just being a jerk. Perhaps seeing what type of reaction he would get from the comment.

The fact that guys like this are ****ing losers and everyone else seems to know it is usually good enough for me.

But since his kids were screaming for some riddlin too. id have took one aside and bribed him with some candy to go punch his dad in the sac! Undisiplined kids will do anything for candy.

To get offended enough to punch him, would have been over sensitive, girly even.

But it is "girl stuff," *points at self*. ;)

It's always interesting to see how pissed off guys get if you tell them they're doing something that's considered 'for girls.' You tell a female that she is doing something that's considered 'for guys' and there's a good amount of pride associated with that. As far as I'm concerned, nothing is gender-orientated outside of the biological, so anyone who orientates anything to gender is ignorant.

Ummm, Guys Drawing is sorta Girly. That's why they associate Artists with Gays. Even those Tattooed heathens that ride Choppers and Do airbrushing on Bikes are sorta girly when they discuss what they do. It's not the act that seems girly it's the discussion. It's like listening to Geeks talk about comics or computers. Believe me I've heard every insult that can be thrown at Artists. Mostly being called limp wristed sissy.;dvl;

from the sounds of it he probably was feeling defensive about his boys being the trouble-makers, and used this "girl stuff" thing as a way to project so YOU'D feel bad instead of HIM.

Poor guy, fragile ego.

Yeah, a glove stuffed with bricks.
I'd have to agree with the punching him issue. I'm glad you didn't do it... but it would've pissed me off too. Like Wibbage said, he's probably feeling guilty about his brat childrens so he thought he'd pass the buck to you... assclown.
I really can't stand people like that.
Good job though, its good that you didn't stoop to his level. ;)

What's wrong with kids running around with squirt guns in the summer time at a birthday party? It sounds like some of you have either forgotten what you were like as kids or had a boring ass childhood. Kids are rotten little sociopathic bastards, but that's a lot of the joy in being young and irresponsible.

Life is full of assholes. The guy has the potential to be nice im sure, with his lifestyle it seems he brought it upon himself. Hes obviously unhappy really. Hes got two kids who drive him crazy he probably doesnt get along with his wife either. his job (must be stressful if hes getting a sh:eek: tload of cash) probably has him way to stressed to deal with the things at home. But like i said. Its how you raise your family and the lifestyle you choose. It goes to show that money cant bring you completion. You can be rich but be a bitch

i think debs made the best point ... im sure alot of guys would look at me like im nuts because i allow my son to play with dolls as well as superheroes ... when you are born you are not knowing what is manly and what is girly , it is instilled to you by what people think you should be doing ... if someone associates playing with dolls as girly im not going to crucify them , i just smile inside because i know how they associate things in life with black and white... im a comfortable grey ... and damned proud ...

Well, one day I'd like to squeeze the time in to do a different programming language that includes some sort of user interaction, a query language or database of some sort.

so far,
I have copied about 33 recipes out of many different recipe books.
and it is fun. what.

Absolutely nothing...

...until they start squirting adults and other children who don't want to be squirted. Hey, I would have done the same thing when I was 7 or 8, too. The difference here is that I would have been told to stop or go somewhere else and would have obeyed or had the shit slapped out of me.

And, Justice, drawing is NOT girly, and if you tell me anything different...I'll just...I'll just...SCREAM!!

Make no mistake, I'd have gotten my shit smacked, too, but that wouldn't have stopped me. Getting in trouble is just the price you pay for having fun. Just a matter of deciding whether you want to pay the price or not.

Yaaaaaaay! I graciously applaud you. Really, this is very much my line of thinking, and I've certainly gotten weird looks from my mother on behalf of it, but I was a girl that played with both dolls and guns (da play ones, silly :p) and felt more free to form my own identity because of it.

Ah, gender issues is probably my number one 'cause' in life. Not that anyone cares to listen.

Think about that everytime someone calls you girly and you wont care anymore.

I woulda been tempted to do something manly and whoop his ass. Jenn wouldnta let me either though. I think I woulda been more pissed off that he was callin my son a sissy than insulting drawing as a hobby. I've had people tell me its stupid, a waste of time, etc. Wonder what that guy does as a hobby, not discipline his kids evidently. Screw him.

I agree with Debs too. But I'd consider doing something 'boyishly prankish' and put sugar in that guy's gas tank.... but then he'd be stuck so either way I'd lose. ugh.

your kid's probably going to turn out better for it...just don't forget to give him some toy cars as well

playing with dolls while growing up facilitates language skills, while stuff like cars encourages spatial orientation

(that said, i think some GI joes work just as well as barbi ;) )

We girls don't have to have babies either. I attest to that. Menstration, yes, babies, no.

Being the bearer of life based upon my own choice makes me nothing less than honored, even if I never follow through and have kids. It's worth everything else that comes along with the process.

Cabral-- your son sounds adorable :) Give him a pat on the head from me.

Wait, you mean I had a choice?! The hell?! HAHAHA! I'm kidding.. I loooooove my little boy. He's so frikkin cool. Unlike his daddy, whos a big nerd. ;)
I've come to realize that we as parents do stupid shit to look good in front of other people, namely those who aren't parents. Duder was probably just shamed because his kids weren't behaving... when in ALL reality, they WERE just being kids.
Though, I still would've been pissed if he had insulted my line of work as well....

Man, if I ever become a parent it will be one interesting experience. I dot endlessly over my little niece, not to mention my pet guinea pig (!!!).

Which by the way, did I show my baby picture of my piggy? You must look!:

That's my piggy and my best friend. *giggle* *runs away*
