Welcome (back) everybody! Here is the second round of this great project "Pencilers, Inkers and Colorists: UNITE!!!". It's time for the inkers to show some of their magic by inking the pics of the penciler's round (won by MiJKa by the way. Congrats MiJKa!)

You can pick any of the five entries to ink, whichever one you like the most, suits you the most to ink, is the most challenging, whatever... it's your call.

Here's the thread with the 5 possible pics to ink:

Who's in?!? :)

Maybe you could post the links to the high res versions of the pieces here if you have them.
Is there a do by date for the inks?

Kris.

EGO Studios is in too!

kj23 - no due date as of yet. We're still looking for as many inkers as possible to enter and that means you and everybody else ;) !!!

As for the high-res pics, here are the ones that were posted before:

and razz007's:

I'll PM the other two guys (propsdue and menace) and ask if they'd like to post up their high-res links over here.

When you enter this round, please specify here who's pic you're going to ink. BTW, you can do as many as you'd like, your choice.

i thought the point of this was to have a round for the pencils and then the one who won that has their pic inked by a bunch of inkers. then the winner of the ink-off has their pic colored by a bunch of colorists...

MiJKa

honestly? so did I. I mean, not that it bothers me. I plan on coloring J.Collwel's anyway. However, I -seriously- doubt I'll have it done in time for the color round.

I think my main problem with moving on to the second round like this is that it more or less null and voids it. it defeats the purpose of choosing amongst inks. I mean, an inkoff with 5 different pics, doesn't choose the favorite inking style or competence or inked mood, but rather, I feel, again, the pic you like. I don't know if I'm making sense here.

And I don't want to come off as embittered or anything. I just thought I should chuck in my two cents. I tried to do it a few days ago, but got chucked offline and didn't try again, 'till today...

Yea I'm a bit confused as well..Can someone shed some light?

danimation2001

hmm... then it's the team that has the most votes?

MiJKa
02-16-2003, 07:43 AM
which leads to more confusion...since, originally, we were going to be tewams but then weren't and now will be again?

ok, so I can mull my way through it..but...well, maybe I oughta just shaddup. Who knows.

This project has got you confused?! How about this post?!? :D

Ok, I'll try to explain. The original idea (mine that is) for this project was that as many people as possible could contribute to it. That meant narrowing it down as little as possible, so everbody could do their own thing without losing a sence of it being one project. That's why we chose the subject matter ('steampunk'; better not use that word again :p ) , so it could appeal to a lot of people and they could show their own ideas.

Now, the idea that the inkers can ink their own choice of pic is totally in line with this general idea (I think). Since inkers don't have a lot of choice anyways, I think it is only fair to give them the choice of what pic to ink. This means more contestants, more diversity and hence, more joy for everybody (creators AND viewers).

I disagree with the statement that people will choose for the same pic all over again. First of all, there was a lot of competition in the penciler's round and although MiJKa won at 75 votes (the agreed 'stop the voting'- point) I believe it could have gone all ways if more people had voted. This is not to negate the fact that MiJKa won (you won, buddy!) but just to show that the competition was fierce and it will probably be so again in the inker's round (EVEN if a lot of people will choose for the same pic again!).
Secondly , I believe you underestimate the inkers and their profession (in general or just those on these boards) if you think this statement is true. There are some great inkers here and some very bad inkers (that's me! :D ) who can make or break a pic, if it was either good or bad to begin with.

That said, I think we've got a great competition ahead of us, if only more inkers would join in!!!

BTW Menace, maybe the movie Daredevil sucked (haven't seen it yet) but I think it's safe to say the comic is one of the best out there. Just stick to that... ;)

I agree. About the inkers (I haven't seen DD yet...although I've heard nothing but the worst about it...:P) Anyway, while I know there are great and terrible artists out there, I'm just not sure how many of them will take part wholly, or, to be more specific, how equal a second round it will be. How do I mean that?

Well, suppose we find 10 (generous figure) inkers who want to take part. And of these ten, lets say 3 do my pic, 3 do propsdue's, 2 do J.Collwel's and one pics one of the remaining two. Some may even have inked two pictues. In any case, the point, I feel, is that I somehow doubt that we'll manage to get an equal representation of all parties involved.

I'm not sure that made sense, and I'm sure there are arguments against it, but I thought I ought to bring it up, since it struck.

*goes back off to study some more...*

Well, that's not what I meant really, although I understand where you're coming from. But if this was the idea, we would have done the team-thing, but we didn't for reasons earlier mentioned in the very first thread "Pencilers, Inkers, Colorists: UNITE!!!" (check back there for that)

In the inker's round it's the inker's choice to do whatever (pic) he wants, just like it was the penciler's choice to do whatever he liked to depict. It's not about equal respresentation of the pencilers' work anymore, it's about equal respresentation of the inkers' work. This means they pick their own pic to ink, because they like to ink that one and will (probably) do a much better job of it. This means (hopefully) more inkers will be attracted to participating. This could mean every inker out there will choose to do MiJKa's pic, or maybe Menace's, whatever. It's the inker's round; it's their freedom to do whatever the want.

Hope everybody understands.

Now on to some sad news, for me anyways. Due to personal problems I will not be able to continue 'moderating' this project anymore, nore participating in it myself (as an inker). I'm really sorry to abandon you all out of the blue like this, but I simply won't have the time or space to do this anymore. I'm sorry I can't say more about this, but I hope you will understand and even more so, I hope that somebody will continue and complete this project (be it a moderator or one of you guys). Again I'm sorry.

Good luck everybody and have a hell of a lot of fun!!!

Celestial Wars, signing off...

*G* that sucks... :(

However, someone really should take this over. I'd do it, but I don't have enough time :( Anyone on good terms with any of the Mods?

And, on that note, lets decide how it works CLEARLY, before we jump on into it. Exactly WHAT are we posting for people to ink. Do we want a single base, to judge between inks, or multiple bases so things get convaluted again? A vote limit, time limit and whatnot...

Anyone?

I think it was decided a number of times that the inkers would be able to choose any one or more of the pencilled entries to ink for the inker's round. So, I say we stick with that. Make the deadline 2 weeks and if anyone else wants to get in on the ink action that didn't originally sign up, they can go ahead and do one as long as they post it on this thread prior to the deadline.

Can I still enter for the ink round? When is the closing date? I couldnt find it in the thread.

Yeah...you can still enter it. Let's make the deadline the 15th...this Saturday. That should give all newcomers more than enough time, too. Plus I have some Young Samurais pages I need to finish up first.

Can anyone (Methane maybe, since you've allready apparently brought this back from the dead -thanks-) drop a line to the people that were originally going to ink this round? Maybe?

I mean, if the original thread is even still around. o_o

I'll be taking the high res scan down from my site later this week so if you still want it but haven't gotten it yet--go get it soon. I assume this challenge is dead or on temporary hiatus and I need the free space. :(
