I know the rules originally stated that there needs to be a background, but I just liked Mijka's figures a little more.

As for the bgs, yeah, originally, they were required. But I was short on time, and, unfortunately, forgot it. I also didn't have time to go back and add it afterwards. A lot of people completely missed that proviso, so it was decided, in the end, that it wasn't obligatory, since most of us didin't remember it.
