View Full Version : ALL RIGHT!!! Next INK-OFF!!!
12-12-2002, 11:00 AM
It's an open challenge: Everybody can join in and everyone can post a possible pic to ink (even if you aren't planning on participating). Remember that the pic must be of high res [at least 200-300 dpi].
12-12-2002, 11:03 AM
Here's an option:
Pencils by the talented Lak Lim, member of these board under the name lakcoo2u .
Hmmm.... I wanted to post the pic up but it seems Lak already took it off the net and I can't put it up so I think I'll PM him about it. It was the Hulk BTW, maybe you saw it some time ago.
Keen little inker aren't ya!
I've got about 30 something highish-high res images on disc and however many hard copies, no lists as im lazy but if anyone comes up with any names i may have the artists. Joe Mad and Adam Hughes were mentioned last time, i only have a few bad quality print outs by Mad but some good quality AH if anyone's interested, i've done most of them apart from a Gen 13 i need to get around.
12-12-2002, 11:17 AM
Well, I don't know what you've got... :D
As long as it's good clean pencils on high res I'm in. I can't really say what I would like since I've been away from comics for about 10 years so I don't really know what's going on lately.
I know Ramos, MAD and maybe a few others, but mostly the old guys like Quesada (my personal favorite), Jim Lee, Miller, etc. It's hard to say a name when I don't know what you've got on disc.
I would love to ink Joe Quesada...
I barely know what i've got and HATE typing up lists with a passion.
Got no more Ramos or Mad apart from whats been mentioned. There are several Jim Lee up on the inkers vault site, used to be a Quesada page but the links broken now, he has/had at least one inkable piece on his own site as well, i couldn't get it to print out though.
12-12-2002, 01:37 PM
Joe Quesada is very fine with me, Joe Mad is one I really really would like to ink.
Ed McGuiness is one cool dude also, but I've never seen his stuff in pencil. :P
I dunno how I will be witht time, but I think for now, whatever you chose I'm probbly in!
I'm working a Ed McG page as i type this and have another one in my pile of things to do, they're 3 of them i think on the inkers vault page,
lots of other artists to choose from there, some not very good copies but many usable.
If someone knows how to create a list from a directory without typing it all up let me know.
12-12-2002, 04:01 PM
OK, heres the image Celestial Wars wanted. I did it as a link since its a pretty big image. This is the last post for me till I get set at my new place. Hopefully I'll get to see some cool inks out of this. Thanks for your interest and of course have fun!!!
12-13-2002, 02:20 AM
Euhhh...... I would like to take a shot at it, but....euhh.....Celestial Wars stole my FRINGGIN' PENS & PENCILS!!! ;) :p lol
so I'll just sit this one out while he has all the fun with my stuff! ;dvl;
Good luck, everyone

Sorry about that, Bloodbro. :D
Quote kj23: "...used to be a Quesada page but the links broken now, he has/had at least one inkable piece on his own site as well, i couldn't get it to print out though."
That's a shame, Kris, although I don't think it'll be on high res quality anyway.
Quote kj23: "If someone knows how to create a list from a directory without typing it all up let me know."
Sorry man, wouldn't know...
Quote kj23: "I'm working a Ed McG page as i type this and have another one in my pile of things to do, they're 3 of them i think on the inkers vault page..."
Don't know about Ed McG, let's hear what others have to say about this possible. For the 3 possibles see Inker's Vault link in kj23's post above.

Thanks for the pic, Lak! I hope we'll take a crack at it. I'm all for it. Now for the rest of our possibel contestants. What do you think of Lak's Hulk pic as the challenge piece?
12-17-2002, 07:52 PM
So what's the deal ??
Is this a go with the Hulk pencils or what ??
I thought I might just throw down this time :D
12-18-2002, 03:22 AM
Not yet, Bill. Although I'm up for it, everybody else still has to say yes or come up with something else. I think it would be best if we decided today which pic to use so people can say yes or no to this challenge. I'm in whatever we do, although I think it would be best if we could take the time to do this right. With Christmas and New Year's in front of us, I don't know how much time I will have between parties.
My suggestion for the deadline would be to post up your entry before dec. 31st. I will probably make the voting thread a few days later though. I don't know if I'll have excess to a computer before that. Maybe I will, maybe I won't. We'll see.
Anyway, I won't be here until hopefully friday, so please decide which pic to ink (I'll go along). I'll leave it up to Psico and kj23:
-Hulk pic by Lak Lim.
-Another pic you mutually agree on.
I'd go for the Hulk pic but I don't want anyone dropping out of this challenge just because I decide it's the Hulk pic, so I leave the choice to you guys! :)
So Friday I'll know what to ink! Bye for now. :p
12-18-2002, 03:28 AM
Sorry, the same post twice. It happens a lot here. Somehow it takes forever to post at an early hour (in Europe). PJ is really slow somehow, even though we've got a very fast connection (at the University). Oh well....
i wanna try the hulk pic (never inked anything before) lol
this is gonna be funny
No offence but i'd rather not do the Hulk pic, i'd rather do something i can use for my portfolio, site or what have you and while the Hulk piece is ok its not really my thing. Not my choice though and i dont want to hold things up, i'll just try and catch up in the next ink off.
12-18-2002, 09:23 PM
Can anyone join this Draw off? I have not inked much but I would like to get in on this. I would not mind drawing the Hulk or another picture.
12-19-2002, 01:30 AM
I dont mind with the Hulk picture... really.
But I dunno when I'll be available, so. I may join almost as a maybe (even tho I really wanna keep going)..
12-19-2002, 03:43 AM
Let's do the Hulk pic for this ink-off. I'm really sorry if Kris won't join this ink-off and I really hope Psico will join (come on man, coloring is nice, but inking is the bomb!), but I think we should make a decision now cause I'm doing nothing now (inking wise).
Kris, could you give us a few samples you'd like to do for the next ink-off? That would be great.
For everyone: We are going to do the Hulk pic, everybody can join the challenge, get your entries in before the end of the year (sort of a deadline). If you could, just post up in this thread that you'll join the challenge, so I've got an idea who and how many of you are participating in this ink-off!
Time to once again get your butts to the drawi...ehh inking table! :)
12-19-2002, 03:55 AM

Remember you can still join! Just post up you entry or give the word you're in!
12-19-2002, 09:58 AM
Oh yeah, I'm in!
12-19-2002, 01:16 PM
I'm in...I'll ink whatever pencils you deside on.
12-19-2002, 01:16 PM
Yeah I'm in pal !
12-23-2002, 07:40 AM
Great that everybody is joining this Challenge, although I do have some sad news. I'm not going to be able to post up anything until after New Year's. Damian handles the scanning and putting it out there on the net for me and we won't be seeing much of each other over the next few days, let alone sit behind a computer together. I'm really sorry, but the deadline will be a little bit later. I don't think anybody will complain, since these are busy and happy days for everyone.
I wish you good luck and a lot of fun inking the Hulk pic and of course a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! :)
12-24-2002, 06:19 AM
Contestants (so far):
- Bill Meiggs
- Celestial Wars
- Psico (If you haven't got the time we'll understand, Psico.)
If you still want to join the challenge, you still can. Just post up your entry here and I'll include you in the voting thread.
as is already said first try at ink :
Hope everyone's having fun with this new ink off. Seed, very good for your first time inking.
Celestial suggested a few pieces for next time, Yanick has some very nice pieces up on his site, the Gambit covers especially. They are not high res but definitely usable and most at full size which is handy. I've already printed out a few and will get around to them sometime. Just thought someone might be interested.
12-30-2002, 06:30 AM
Yeah...and we could have our next badass color off on those too. Or if you wanted to go COMPLETELY crazy, yo ucould do some of his wonderwoman stuff (have yo useen that shiznit? It's inSANE...)
Its all quite nice, personally i've went for the cover/pinup images since even as its in low res its usable, i dont really think a packed page would print out well or be very easy to ink. I do have a few hard copies though of some of his Gambit interiors.
12-31-2002, 06:17 PM
When is the deadline on this??
I broke my last nib today inking this damn thing and it's taking me a little longer than usual to finish!! Ok I'm done whinning ;)
Seriously, when is the deadline??
01-06-2003, 05:03 AM
Take all the time you need. I'm done already but my man Damian has to put it on the net, so I think he'll do it tonight. Hope 2 see the rest of the entries soon!!!
01-06-2003, 01:54 PM
enjoy fellas, can't wait to see more entries!! :p
01-07-2003, 08:28 AM
Just to let the contestants of this challenge know...
Final deadline is Jan. 11th. Good luck!!! :)
01-07-2003, 01:30 PM
that looks cool CW...
I started mine already, but my dad is in the hospital again, and I'm got a major flu... or something.
Anyway, if I don't finish it tiull the deadline (which I hope I do) can I enter with my WIP pic?!
01-08-2003, 04:42 AM
Sure you can, psico. I'm sorry to hear things are still not going to well for your dad. I hope you and your family have had a nice holiday and your health and especially that of your father will get better very soon! :)
Hope you can make it on time! I'd love to see the whole thing but don't strain yourself too much now.
01-08-2003, 06:04 AM
BTW... Lakcoo2u, or should I just say Lak Lim - I hope you are enjoying this challenge and the entries so far. I'm counting on your vote :p since I was the one starting this challenge with your pic :D !!!
01-08-2003, 02:36 PM
I'm sorry everybody.
I won't have time to finish, here's my entry. I guess I don't stand a chance with a no finished pic, but I think it shows my inkins skillz anyway. See ya letars everybody. Tell me whatcha think... please! ;)
01-09-2003, 02:49 AM
Too bad you can't finish, Psico, 'cause you were on a tight roll here!!
Overall, the inks look nice and solid, but Hulk's outer lines don't have a nice smooth curve in 'em, especially around his shoulders and biceps..... :(
also, you've lost a lot of muscle-lines around the shoulders, which makes them look a little flat.
I'm sure you would've seen these things for yourself, if you would have had the change to finish up;)
good work overall
01-09-2003, 04:56 AM
I agree with Damian, psico. It's a shame you couldn't finish but we understand. I agree a lot too with the comments Damian made, though I think it's abvious you weren't done with it so it's tough to say anything about it really. The most important crit for me is the outer lines of the Hulk's body. Like Damian said, there not smooth enough (for my taste), but I love the way you did the face. It's the best thing about the pic. See you in the next ink-off! :)
01-09-2003, 07:51 PM
Well here it is finally !!
Hulk Inks (http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=4020019&a=30159538&p=62419591&f=0)
Hope everyone likes it.. I had a blast doing it !! :)
01-09-2003, 07:53 PM
When the pic opens up click on it and it will give you a larger image..
I still can't figure out how to post the damn image in the post so I hope this works out ok??
01-10-2003, 02:31 AM
I like, Bill, especially the detail in it, like on the rocks and the face, superb!!:p
01-10-2003, 05:50 AM
Great stuff, Bill.
Oh and Seed did a great job as well, sorry I didn't say that sooner. Strong competition, I like it!!! :D
01-10-2003, 06:07 AM
I've tried to show your link as a pic on this thread, Bill, but it doesn't seem to work. Now it doesn't really matter here, but it would be nice if I could show your pic in the voting thread, it would only be fair. I'll PM the Administrator for ideas.
01-10-2003, 09:40 AM
This probably won't work, but I'll give it a shot...
Yeah, I had a feeling that would happen. This board software doesn't like image URLs that don't end in a file extension, like .jpg or .gif, and I can't get to the file itself thanks to the setup of the host page. If you want to post the image directly, I'd suggest getting a new host. Otherwise, stick with just posting the link.
01-10-2003, 09:33 PM
Thanks, Benito. I was messing with it as well to the same results.
Also - if you post from another web-host make sure you resize the image a bit before you upload it , just to be nice to all the modem users out there.
01-12-2003, 08:16 AM
see if this works !!
Well done on all the pieces posted so far.
01-13-2003, 05:51 AM
YAAAAAAYYYYY!!!!! It works!!!!
01-13-2003, 05:53 AM
If I still got time today (I don't) I'll make the voting thread today. If not today, tomorrow. So hurry up, people who haven't given their entries yet!!! ;)
01-13-2003, 09:46 AM
Look on the Arena board for the voting thread!!!
Thanks for trying, dear moderators!
