No, not Robert Beltran - aka Chakotay from ST:V;

but Fred Beltran, The artist.
He works with Jodorowsky (known from The Metabarons) on Megalex: the anomaly.

He does about 60% in a 3D program. Most time consuming, but the result are some very clean drawings.

I've looked at the links you listed - and have found that I don't like the guy.

Whilst his art shows a high level of technical ability - it is atmospherically dead leaves me cold.

I don't like it at all.

I'm kinda indifferent. While each piece within the picture seems rendered well, nothing feels connected concretely. Sorta like every body part is floating a micrometer beside each other wrapped in their own box.

I admire the work for the attention to detail but the subject matter is not something that I am particularly interested in.

agreed.

although his fascination with large breasts seems something new and inviting.

Personally, I really like this guys work.

I think you'd have to read the comic before you can judge the quality, seeing the work on glossy paper in a nice thick book is much better than some itsybitsy JPG's.

It's not perfect, but it's very stylish and it DOES have a certain atmosphere, if you read the comic you see, that it's really fitting to the story.
I picked upbook #1 and I'm certainly going to check out #2.

I read Metal Hurlant one and two and they're looking cool. It's a freaky world and the disjointedness you mention before seems to fit it perfectly.

His stuff's not bad, and he does do fantastically three dimensional woman-hood. :)

The only thing I don't dig, is the panel, on the third link, with the police surrounding the girl on the ship...It looks like it was done in a 3d program, re-enforcing my negative bias to 3d modeling in comics. If he's using a 3d modelling program for all of his work, then I wonder why so many of the figures are just standing vertical, arms at their sides.

Still, those faces, and coloring are really exquisate!(sp?-It's early, ok!)

Whilst I admire how clean and realistic his drawings look ; there is no artistic soul (read: atmosphere) .

His storytelling abilities aren't great. -- of course, you couldn't know since you'd have to buy the Megalex comics to know what I'm talking about.

Just thought it might be cool to let you guys get to know him because he's pretty hot in france at the moment.
