View Full Version : The Super Sith Theory (not about an incredibly powerful Sith)...

First off, hello. I was once called ShatterScreen. I took a break sometime ago to get serious about my art, and have since come back. And with a new name. For those that remember me, and my insane discussions about this and that, this topic is no different. :)

Anyway,...

I have loved Star Wars my entire life (seriously, I was born in '78 and my parents were getting me the toys months before my birth) so after Episode I came out on DVD something hit me.

Lucas has a very finite system in place for the creation of these movies. All of the elements of the story and design fall into a theory that explains it all.

Examples of this are everywhere if you compare each episode with it's other trilogy partner.

Episode I - Episode IV
Episode II - Episode V

Now the first one is easy, except for a shifting of the locations (i.e. Earth Based which is Tan in color, Plant Based which is Green in color, and Technology Based which is Gray in color) these two episodes are almost perfect twins of each other.

So it got me thinking (which doesn't take much) and I came to the conclusion that a master theory could be created. A system of events, locations, designs, and character types could be formed that would make it possible to not only create a sequel trilogy if one wished, but a countless number of trilogies that could span from before the Old Republic to thousands of years after New Jedi Order.

So I've dubbed this the SUPER SITH THEORY after the other all unifying Super String Theory.

So I thought that if anyone wanted to help with the creation of theory, I would open it to a general discussion.

Since we have a good amount of info on both, we're going to start from the beginning...

ACT 1
This is the movie that starts everything, it lays down the foundation for the other two.

The first movie always starts with a ship (probably alternating from coming towards the camera and going away from it.)
On this ship are The Duo. There is always two of something (E1 - Jedi, E4 - Droids) and pretty quick into it they begin to help The Monarch.

Other character types are:
The Instigator (this is the person that starts things into motion, they are also the one that dies by the end.)
The Caregiver (this is the person who has raised The Hero. It could be any character type, or it's own.)
The Hero (this is our main character and is always special, even if he doesn't know it.)

NOTE: If this is not the first movie in a sequence of Trilogies, then The Hero MUST be related to the previous Trilogy's Hero.

See how that works. I've just described both Episode I and IV without limiting myself in the creation of an Episode VII or -III.

So at this point, I'll open it up to you guys. Let's stick to ACT 1 unless other Acts need to be mentioned.

I like Star Wars too but you just might have too much time on your hands. There's only one more Star Wars movie coming out and then that's it. So I'm not sure what the point of your theory is?

And I'm not trying to be mean or anything. I read the whole thing. I just don't know what you're trying to accomplish?

I have to agree with Chris on this one. You have had way to much time to think about this. While I like star wars like anyone else, it is a known fact that George Lucas has a formula for his movies. Heck, even the books that have been written by other authors in the star wars universe have to follow the same pattern. So, while your thoughts are good thoughts, and I like the way you broke it down, all this is moot since it is common knowledge already.

I can understand what you are trying to say/do in this thread, but there is no need to recreate the wheel, when your going to get the same wheel. If you recreate it and improve upon it that would be different and would make your super sith theory work.

Good luck.

If you have the special edition versions of the first trilogy, you pretty much said everything he did in the interview portion.

Lucas also had a plan to do a third trilogy that would fall after the original trilogy on the time line, but I kinda doubt that will happen.

I'm not saying that there are going to be any more films. I know there's only one left.

I just thought it would be fun to create a perfect theory to create stories or what have you.

In that case, you need go no further than reading Joseph Campbell's books on mythology. That pretty much outlines the underlying theory behind mythology and fantasy stories and George Lucas studied his work to help guide the Star Wars films.

Ben, I get the feeling that you and Ky-Shon would get along fab-o-lussly...

Are you one of those people that have no job and waits infront of the theater for months before the next Star Wars movie?

I've always wanted to smack one of those people.

I wish that I could afford to wait in line that long.

Nope, the longest I've been in line was one night. But I currently hold the honor of being first in line for Episode I and II within the region of La Crosse, Wisconsin.

And as for having too much time, what I have so far with this project (which is more than above, but I thought I would use that as a starting point) is the collected effort of the last three years. It's just a side project that I come back to every now and then. :)

I can't at the moment (haven't gotten my new scanner hooked up yet) but later tonight I will.

Mostly it was just me pushing really hard to solve the problems that I could see in my art and try to get it to a level that I would be happy with as a non-pro cartoonist.

All you need to know about Starwars is it's good Vs evil.

Empire and rebels, which is which? There is some debate apparently.

Specifically, Lucas followed the archetypical "Hero's Journey" in making Star Wars. There was a PBS-type movie interviewing Campbell and talking about his work in relation to Star Wars made in the early-to-mid 1980s, shortly before Campbell died, so seek that out if you don't want to read the books.

I'm assuming for those three years you haven't had a girlfriend, either. I feel your pain bro, I do.

Actually I was married a year after Episode I came out. My wife understands my obsession with Star Wars.

Fitchburg is a block away form Madison (in other words there isn't really a boundry). But I was born in Oshkosh.

Bah... the only thing cool about Wisconsin is That 70's Show... buncha cheese-heads.

:D

Aside from that, you do realize that the Star Wars license is RABIDLY regulated by LucasArts, and that they take NO suggestions for ANY material from outside the company?

Of course, that doesn't stop people from producing awesome Fan Films (http://www.theforce.net/theater), but then again those are strictly non-profit. And of course, theorizing about the films and their underlying themes is cool.

Of course, ever since Crapisode I and the only mildly better II, I've decided that Lucas largely sucks as a writer and director, and needs to stay in the editing room. Good producer, terrible director.

Think about it, best SW film? Empire, directed by Irving Kirshner.
