Man, me and this show go way back. After Akira and Iczer back in 1988, it was Ranma 1/2 that i watched (and silent mobieus, but i didn't like that too much. Since both were in Japanese with no subtitles, it was easier to understand guys turning into girls ducks and pigs and getting naked all the time than some metaphysical otherworld occult movie.)
ANYWAY, the point is that there was talk of having this show brought to cable a couple years ago around the same time they were wondering if they could put Tenchi up there (and magical knight Reyearth). Well, Tenchi made it , but ranma, (and reyearth) have yet to see the light of day. What's up wtih that? I mean, i know they show nipple every now and then in Ranma, but I don't see how that's any worse than all the bloody stuff they show on Adult Swim.
Ranma is a good show, and they have 100's of episodes already dubbed and ready to go. Does anybody CARE!?!??!

They could blur the nipplage for that matter... I'd love for Ranma to make it to Adult Swim.
The thing is, Americans still view any sort of animation as kiddie stuff due to the proliferation of Disney. There are tons of articles on this published all over the place, but it all boils down to the fact that American society deems any cartoon as something only deserving the attention of children, and if your cartoon shows something that isn't for children to see it's deemed taboo.
The only thing that'd help put a stop to that is wacky hijinks a la "Chairman Of The Board" (with Carrot Top) or down and dirty street punks busting heads "Gleaming The Cube" style. If all else fails, we go straight to "Dirtbike Kid" mode.

have you seen the action block of adult swim on saturdays? They have that other Romiko Takahashi cartoon that i can't think of the name of right now. Cartoons are growing up, Wally, babe. As anime becomes more popular and finds its way into bigger sections of Hollywood video, the stations have started waking up. I mean, they were seriously talking about bringing it to TV. I'm just wondering what the **** happened to derail that train of thought.
There are only two things that I think could possibly have derailed it:
1- Some board member of Cartoon Network, or whoever owns them, saw a single episode of Ranma and deemed it to be more than the late night blocks could handle. More than likely due to incessant groping of breasts, baring of breasts and shower scenes.
I watch Adult Swim blocks and you're thinking of Inu-Yasha. The main difference there is that the storyline is supposedly more "adult" oriented with more series subject matter (as opposed to panty shots and the like). I've seen two episodes of that and have seen no nudity, blurred Sealab style or not.
2- Viz Video who owns the English language versions and all licensing rights for North America put a stop to it because they want more money. Just look at the price of the VHS copies.. Two episodes for $30? Rip off!
I'm just as disappointed as you are to learn that no one will air episodes of Ranma, Devilman. I own several tapes of it and was hooked to the TPB's until Vol. 6 (althought the actual decline of the storylines occurred around the end of Vol. 2).
I CARE! I CARE!
I love Ranma 1/2 and would squeal with delight if it showed on Adult Swim. Here's to hoping one day it does. In the meanwhile, I'm asking for the booksets for Christmas...

Rumiko Takahashi is my hero. I grew up with Ranma 1/2 and in high school my comics and characters were just like those in Ranma. >_< oh how her influence runs deep in me and my friends' work... and I was watching ranma when I was like 13, the nudity never bothered me because the characters themselves were too ridiculous to take seriously.
I love inuyash too tho and I didn't know they put it on cartoon network. It's an awesome show... hmm maybe I'll go get the dvd set sold in chinatown of season 1-4 ^o^

I think i'm going to write an email to the guys at adult swim and see what the hell is up with this show? Maybe they might actually have enough time to brush me off with an almost answer.
hey, you take what you can get in this cruel world.
