63-YEAR-OLD COMIC HERO TO MAKE MOVIE DEBUT (AND 7-YEAR-OLD ONE, TOO)
Today's Headlines
------------------------------------------------------------------------

The comic-book superhero Sub-Mariner, who first appeared in Marvel Comics #1 and Motion Picture Funnies Weekly #1 in 1939 and has been a staple of Marvel Comics ever since, will soon be coming to the screen as a result of a new deal with Universal. The comic-book company and the studio are also teaming up on what Avi Arad, CEO of Marvel Studios, called the "first superhero action-comedy," by bringing Prime, a character who made his debut in 1995, to the screen. Film projects involving the two Marvel characters have been announced in the past, but appear to have now been placed on a fast track, according to trade reports.

They bought Malibu out when the Ultraverse crashed and burned a few years ago.

Prime? Like the number?

I remember the WIzard was pulling a gag about how kevin smith bought submariner for 30 bux, and i totally believed it. :(

More like Marvel bought Malibu when they were doing well and ended up ruining it. The Ultraverse got lame fast when Juggernaut moved to a new universe to be the biggest hero there. And a lot of the good talent started leaving after Marvel bought them.

ahhhhhhh, now i remember> OK, that's right. That comic was pretty cool, from the couple issues that i read. Awesome. I just wonder who they're going to find to play Prime, cause that kid was SWOLE! they'd have to find a huge mutherfocker who could halfway act.

I'd go see a Prime movie. He always seemed like a Shazam/Captain Marvel rip-off, but it was done pretty well. Then things at Malibu got silly with Elven and Freak Force and whatnot.
They should just cast a big dumb bodybuilder type, and maybe enhance him with latex mucles a bit.
I dunno about Sub Mariner, I was never a big fan. Naked Guy, wings on his feet, swims real fast. I never really liked any of the Sea-World superheroes. As a concept, it just doesn't grab me.
Why does Spock look like Sub Mariner with clothes on?
