who the hell did they get to CAST this film?

well, aside from maybe hugh jackman, i was most impressed by this guy (james marsden i think?)...i really had my doubts when they cast him as cyke, but i think he was possibly the most interesting character...
i have faith that he *could* work as JC, but is he the best choice? who knows...
matthew mcconnehey (damn, i have no idea how to spell that...) seemed like an obvious choice...dye his hair black from "contact" and you've got jesse
also, it looks like steve dillon drew owen wilson's nose, and the guy rocks...but maybe he wouldn't do so well in the more serious preacher scenes...

Matt M seems a good choice to me, dude's even Texan.
Get Clint for the Saint though, or maybe Sam Elliot. Didja see him in "We Were Soldiers"? Guy makes hard-ass look easy.
I think they cast it thinking using the techniques I read about in Fortune And Glory, where they think, "Okay, Custer may have been older, but we gotta appeal to the younger set- let's cast him in his twenties".

definitely Sam Elliot as the Saint of Killers... he's got the stature and the voice.
-Robbie Coltrane and Michael Jeter as the 2 private 'dicks' (forget their names).
-Ewan McGreggor as Cassidy (got the red hair, and he could pass off an Irish accent)
-dunno about Tulip.. a 'brand name' probably wouldn't want to do the stuff that would be called for (nudity, shooting people, nudity...) but if I had to name one, it would be Christina Applegate (if she could pull of the pissed off-edness and the toughness)
I can kinda appreciate James Marsden as Jesse... he should be able to pull it off okay. maybe Vince Vaughn if he could try some actual acting...
part of me thinks this would be better suited as a series on HBO or something ala Sopranos. I mean hell, the budget wouldn't need to be that great except for the Heaven and Hell / Genesis sequences. Plus it would be cool to see something like this become a huge critical hit for another medium and rake in some awards...

Horatio Sanz for Jesse and Kelly Ripa as Tulip. Dan Ackroyd as the Saint of Killers. Sean William Scott for Cassidy. And no doubt in my mind, Kurt Angle for Herr Starr with Steve Irwin as his second in command.

Sean William Scott? - Is he the one from American Pie (Stifler?) and Bulletproof Monk? - If yes, I can't think of anyone worse to be in ANY movie. He cheapens film before he even opens his mouth. Maybe its not who I'm thinking of  .............
Vanessa Angel would make a good Tulip.
Matthew Mcaunahey (sp?) would definitely be good as Jesse and now that someone has suggested that Ewan McGregor should be Cass I can't imagine anyone else playing him... :)

ewan's cool, but i think i'd want someone a bit more *weathered*...like, cassidy hasn't aged much in the last hundred years, but he'd certainly be showing *some* age...plus, mcgregor seems too wholesome (though maybe that big smile be turned into a shit eating grin ;) )...i tend to think of ewan as more of a superman (yeah, you heard me right, he'd rock as supes!) than cass...
i definitely agree that preacher should be a series...movies could work because of the arcs garth set up, but it really should be more ongoing...unless we're guaranteed 3 films or whatever, he'd have to find god in the first movie, and that would suck
i can think of nothing better than a preacher television series (well, one thing better, airing said show on a channel that i actually get...stupid HBO :P )
It took me seeing a blurb in Entertainment Weekly to figure out you guys were talking about Preacher instead of a young version of that historical Custer guy.
