So I just finished reading the Fantastic Four nine cent comic and it actually got me thinking about collecting again. I've never collected FF before and I know a lot of major events went down in the last couple of years. Like the whole Reed dissapearing for a while and then coming back, Ben being able to change back to human form, and Johnny's latest break-up that they keep mentioning in the nine cent mag. Anyone wanna suggest any trade paperbacks that I can buy to catch up?

I haven't read the 9¢ issue yet but I did pick it up (it was 9¢ :D). I don't read a lot of fantastic four at all but I did pick up this four issue run that Jae Lee did this past year. It was excellent, I think it was just named FF 1-4 but I can check when I get home. I don't think they compiled it at all so you'd have to find the four issues yourself.

IT's called Fantastic Four: 1234 by Grant Morrison and Jae Lee.

Also, I believe it'll be out in trade form soon, if it isn't already.

fatmancomics - Don't worry about any of it. Honestly. The 9 cent issue is structured so you don't need to know what's happened in the past. I don't believe Johnny's girlfriend has been named or has appeared, it's only necessary that you know he's recently been through a breakup recently. That's all. The FF:1234 thing people mentioned was also not bound by continuity, so don't worry about going into it unprepared either.

So what about Ben being able to turn back to human form? From the nine cent comic, it looked like he can't do that anymore

Ben's had so many different incarnations (anyone remember "spiky" Thing?) it's not funny. I don't think he's able to shift back to human form anymore. It's best not to worry about such things. If you enjoy the nine cent comic, then stick around. I'm sure Mark Waid'll cook something entertaining up for ya.

The folks at my local store forgot to hold a copy back for me (i'm a 'Ringo fan) so I didn't get one that puppy sold fast. But I'm definatly gonna pick up this run so long as Waid and Wieringo stay aboard. The last time I every collected the FF was for like 4 issues when Claremont and Larrocca where doing it, with the whole Reed in Dooms suit thing.
