it's an article about a blind man who uses cameras connected to his brain with wires to see.

It's about ****ing time! :D

Now all that he needs is a laser on the side and we're in busness.

I saw this on discovery health, the vision of his artifical eye is very pixelated and in Black and White, but it works. All they need is to integrate fiber-optics for superior resolution, and thats soon.

Hell yeah!

Now the next time someone asks me if I would ever sell both my eyeballs for 50 million dollars, I'll say yes I would.

See, because with the 50 million dollars I could buy me some of them fake eyeballs and still be able to see, and maybe even have a little cash left over for, shall we say, "recreational purposes". Eh?...;)

But seriously, that's pretty neat.

I read it in the mag.

This is even more amazing than when I saw someone on discovery walk on mechanic legs, without having to support himself.

With today's leaps in technology, can Zombie Ants be far behind?

if you read the entire article, at the end they're talking with another guy who is trying to accomplish the same things as the guy who made the glasses/brain diode stuff, only he's trying to implant his device in the retina.

He was also talkign about how new software is coming out that sharpens images, can give night vision, and infa red. Add all of that together with the glasses and you've got a Jordi Laforge. The funny thing is, he started out with the visor thing, but ended up going to the retinal thing, (because as the scientist at the end of the article tells us, there are by far more advantages to that.)

Jordi was the first thing that popped into my head. Wow, technology never ceases to amaze me. Awe-inspiring sometimes to see what mankind is capable of achieving.

he sounds like a super hero in the making

PATIENT ALPHA
with his incredible vision shades he can zoom, see in the dark, see heat signatures and even see underneath clothing

but seriously they say hes tall and strong, rugged with an angular jaw that does sound like a super hero description

and with his trusty side kick
MEKANO LEGS
with his incredible stability

I'm vaguely amused that the technology displayed in Star Trek: The next Generation will be obsolete... screw the visor, we're going straight to the eyes!

This will forever label me as a geek however.. I've been in love with cybernetics ever since the borg on Star Trek TNG.. "Krosis of Borg" was a character.. ;) and more recently Ghost in The Shell the manga.. read how in depth Shirow gets in descriptions of the technology sometimes.. nifty.

oh and Jedmo.. it's "Geordi" (I'm such a geek) ;)

Live Long an-- no, I'll spare you..

Wow... would you like a shovel to help you dig that hole you're in a little deeper?

:p

Nahhhh, who am I to call the kettle black? I can spout useless animation trivia for hours, not to mention Star Wars (classic trilogy) trivia and my plethoric knowledge of generally weird facts (to wit, my knowledge of carrier pigeons and their role during WWI that was brought up in another thread...)

I want to get on Beat the Geeks as the Cartoon Geek.

wow - that is cool. technology is going so far so fast.

about christopher reeves - my mom was telling us abou this article she read about him. it said that he was recovering some sensations in his hands and legs, something practically unprecedented with the seriousness of his injuries. .. so he may be walking again pretty soon. :)
