Im not sure if they have something similar, imagine a wacom style thing that you could carry to class. It has a pen like a wacom but its powerd by batter. You can draw on it and when your done with your sketch you can save it as a jpeg, gif or any other picture format to take home and upload to your pc. Then you wouldnt have to scan it, you wont be wasting paper and you wont have to worry about sharpening pens. I think this would be great for the artist who likes to go outside and observe people in daily life and draw them.

Oooohhhhh! It's batter powered! Like cake mix or like Sammy Sosa?

Next, they should make a car that runs on cookie dough.

i don't know what the big deal is.. when I want to draw outside i just take my pc outside with me. A long extension cord, a surge protector, and my wife carrying the heavy monitor later and i'm drawing on my wacom out in the fresh sunkissed air...

but really, unless you have a screen attatched or something how would you know what you've drawn? if you are really wanting this THIS badly, get you a decent laptop and a wacom and enjoy. otherwise stick with a sketchpad...

Ya, it would be llike a wacom but would have a screen like an etch a sketch to show you what you have drawn. Bah **** it, it just sounded good when it first popped in.

What you ask for is not far.

I guess you can take this off it's stand and put it in your lap to draw. It would still have a power line buit still nice.

The start. (http://www.wacom.com/lcdtablets/index.cfm)

I was just going to mention the Cintiq. it's exactly what you describe except it isn't cordless but it's heckuva fun board to draw on!!!! Takes a bit getting used to tho, the normal alignment of pencil tip on paper is just sliiightly twisted. I tried one at the Swedish wacom headquaters when our company was invited to a tablehockey tournament where we had to redesign the hockeyplayers. Needles to say I convinced my colleagues to don them up as super heroes so we got a Hulk, Spidey, Batman and the Phantom player. Mucho cool! :D

We have a Sony Viao exquivalent to the Cintique at the studio, although it's not portable. It does however combine the screen and the pad into the same thing, allowing you to effectively draw on the screen. Works awesome for Painter, Photoshop, and the like.

We only have one and I don't get to play with it much... it's currently at the BG artist's station while I slave away with such primitive, archaic things as pencil and paper.

:(

I'm sure sometime in the next five years or so they'll get one bundled up into a laptop unit, though. It'll start out at around 5 grand or so, but eventually be somewhat affordable.

Just a matter of time...
