I'm going to be in a movie!

Now now, before you think of exploiting me for favors n' such, lemme clear this picture up. Appearantely some friends of mine who are hardcore about making short films found out about this competition that's going on around the us.


The premise is that they go city to city and they have a meeting in each city. At this meeting, they tell the contestants that they have to make the movie about a certain prop, and what genre they expect it to be in. THe contestants then have 3 days to storyboard , write, film, edit, etc. the film and have it ready for submission.

They then take the winners from each city and do pit all of those against each other.







The winner gets $1000.




But seriously, that's totally not why my friends and I are doing this. We're just stoked on making movies. As is, we've got all the equiptment, one of us got a new computer with adobe premier, and we're renting a CRANE tomorrow for some of the shooting. *we're eejits, i tell ya!*

It's sponsered by Red Bull, that energy drink... but I went to thier site and found squat. http://www.starmaxxmedia.com/ , but I'll find out tonight when we finish tonights shooting and look to see if they have a schedule... all in all....

i got hit by a car 3 times, got thrown against the wall by 2 guys and fought them 5 times, fell into broken 40 bottles 3 times, walked around in an alley usually frequented by bums barefoot (piss, broken glass, feces, effluvia) tons of fun

the thing that sucks, is the story.....
and the direction....
i guess, being that i'm into comics, I have these really awesome ideas of how the movie should go, but there are 9 poeple trying to have their say so.....
some of the stuff was fun, it was also kinda funny running around downtown houston with no shoes on, having all these bums ask us "ya'll filmin' a moo-vee?"

Supposedly the "RED BULL Girls" are going to come and hang out with us (the Starz guys are interviewing us about our movie, kinda a documentary) I think that will be funny if they do.

This is kind of an important issue... there needs to be ONE director. He takes suggestions and ideas from the rest, but in the end you need to have one person who gets the final say-so.

This is the number-one reason why a group of friends get to gether to do something cool and it doesn't work out... becasue it isn't defined at the beginning who gets the final decision.

definitely, as inkthinker stated. having to much fun during the making of a movie causes the people that are making the movie to be less serious about making the movie great and let things slide. like bad dialogue, bad action, etc.

Take it seriously, and remember you're a ****ing brilliant guy. If anyone should be the director, it's you.

Be more forceful with the decisions, if you know that something sucks, say so.

This is what makes a movie great.



also don't show these people incharge of the contest anything until you find out if they are legit. This could be a total scam. Don't get yourself fooled. :D

well, as things would have it. Our brilliant director ended up filming the entire thing so that the icons (date, how much film and battery power is left, etc.) is embedded onto the film. There's no way around it. Hence, our movie is garbage (well, moreso now than before.) We have nothing to submit.

OH well, stuff like this happens. Regardless, we have it for ourselves. There were some funny scenes, so it was worth a good laugh. Maybe I'll try to get ghost-x in on this so we can have a really cool script.

I've talked to my other friends, though, and we're going to try to put together a site with a bunch of short films on it. I already have a couple script ideas that i submitted to the guys and they sounded pretty positive about being in on this, so....

Good luck John. I myself have made a few student films, and music videos, and always run into the same problems that your having. Even when I'm the director their are just to many people in a film crew, and your not going to get exactly what you invision not matter what you do. It's almost impossible.
