Exactly as the title says, what the hell happened to them. I remember as a kid always waking up to a new cartoon show every year. mostly on sundays.
Now all I find is the news... so why have all the channels decided to not air any more cartoons....?
Is it because 9:11?
saturday morning cartoons are a joke... :(
So what the hell is there?!
hm... I wonder if there's anything good on the spanish channel.... I don't even speak spanish.

The spanish channels are excrusiatingly entertaining. You otta give em a try. Funny, I woke up this morning early enough and found that there is absolutely nothing good as far as cartoons go on in the mornings anymore! I was gunna post a thread about the same issue. You beat me to it.
what ever happened to the Bugs and Tweety show?! Cartoons suck now... bah!

I've noticed, but don't really miss 'em much. Cartoon Network is my default channel setting anyhow...
I expect in another decade free TV broadcasting will probably die off, replaced completely by cable and satellite... sad, really. :(

unless you want to watch pokemon or digimon or crapemone or fill-in-the-blankemon then stick with cartoon network. I never get up early enough to really notice this no-morning-cartoons phenomenon but it sounds like it sucks. I used to watch TMNT every single day before school. And Mighty Max too. All the channels put their cartoons on in the afternoon now.

yeah the networks evidently decided it wasnt profitable to invest in saturday morning cartoons that have a captive audience of millions upon millions
This tv season seems to be turning around though with FOX and WB being about the only networks that are actively trying to create saturday lineups anymore .......though ABC is trying to improve. But since Disney controls what airs its gonna be alot of winnie the pooh and other disney properties
I'm really sad to see the old days fade away. Kids today dont know what they've missed

well, I miss my everday cartoons with their recycled animation loops and 2 frame run cycles. That's why I download ripped anime. Yep, nothing like gory bloodbathed battle scenes that get shown on the air in Japan.

thats something I've always wondered about.....it seems like here in america we can barely scrape together a shitty ass cartoon like Mighty Max but in Japan they have cartoons with A grade animation airing everyday.
And why is it almost every manga eventually gets its own animated OVAs while comics here are LUCKY if they Ever get into the pilot phases
Would it be too hard to get some american comics animated in japan?
How cool would a Hellboy anime be

seriously, Kevin. How many comic books like Hellboy are there OUT in America? Let's be honest with ourselves... this is a nation run on a religion that tries to point the finger at cartoons claiming that they rot the childrens mind while their "good book" is filled with more gore and scandal than any other in history. Alot of the comics that would make the most awesome cartoons are immediately shut down because of censorship. How many of you would love to see a Preacher cartoon, (wierd how i decided to bring that one up after my little rant above, eh)? They have all kinds of shit like that in Japan.

And when comics DO get a cartoon it's original concept is usually raped to make it more friendly for the kiddies.

Check out the abc family channel if you have it - they got the good shit from way back on Saturday mornings. Spiderman and his amazing friends, The Incredible Hulk, the previous series X-Men, and a few other high quality toons.

Completly ignore the Bible slander it quite simple why Japanese cartoons out shine american ones. The media is totaly different in Japan than it is in America. Y'allknow that Cartoons over here are predominantly for kids and younger veiwers. That's why we have to fight against the steroptyes when we say, "Yeah I Watch that cartoon. " And the Nah-sayer go "Gee isn't that for kids." The smae thing with comic books. The censorship won't allow things that Jappan censorship (if it's over there) allows.
So I agree with Kali with the revolution. Even though he was probaly joking, Why not find a way to do an underground cartton or Support a freind who's in animation to go underground.(we know you have them)
(In a scottish accent)They may take out Saturday mornings, but they never take our FREEDOM!!!

You have no idea how badly I want preacher to be animated. :D
You know... spawn on HBO was pretty good, I think it was even better then the comicbook. But that was on cable.
I caught a spiderman episode on I think fox family channel, It was nice to watch. I don't really care for that "Spiderman and his amazing friends" crap.
Here's a salution, which I hope to be a part of one day and perhaps even own ( hey, a guy can dream can't he... can't he? ).
a channel completely dedicated to animation that doesn't suck! It would be, of course, on cable. The panzys of america will be happy with that. I've actually got a bunch of ideas for this channel, but I'd rather keep them to myself until I've got the power to put them to good use.

If there WERE a channel like that, do you know how many people would jump on to subscribe? It surely wouldn't be able to be one of the basic cable, with the uber-adult stuff that one would surely have portrayed in their series. Maybe premium, like skinimax.

Yeah..they use to start like at 6am and go till 1pm..now its like 8am-11am if that on Saturdays..and it usually is only on Fox and UPN/WB channels too.

For those of you who don't know. You should also check out the Action channel after hours. Usually around, eleven or midnight they show either an anime movie or short series (they showed the whole mechaman 2 series one wednesday night; I was up till three!). I like the idea of the channel with cartoons that don't suck but a lot of people think that it's cartoon network. I'm not one of them. They do have good stuff most of the time but some shows I just don't like. I (and I know I'm going to get reamed for this) don't like anything having to do with Dragon's balls for example and CN spend WAY too much time with that stuff. But for those of you who do I recomend you check out the International channel around 4pm every day for some uncensored (yet untranslated) DBZ. Adult swim does kick ass though. Oh, and if you really want to see some of Hanna-Barbera's best stuff, try to get your cable company to carry Boomerang (cartoon network owns this one) and you can see Shazzan, Birdman and the Galactic trio and even some things we'd like to forget like Chuck Norris and the Commando Squad (or something like that).
As for regular tv, UPN is trying to turn some yen into dollars with something called the Fox Box (I think Fox is trying to buy them out) this season. I don't know what cartoons it will have but it'll include a recent Ultra Man series so I'm definately looking for that one.

exactly around what number is the action channel on.
Oh and I don't blame you for not liking DBZ, I'm not to fond of it now with all the really bad writing, bad dubbing and not needed editing.
International means spanish... Me no speak spanish. :D But I have to admit that it's way better then the one on cartoon network. The japanese background music is there to.
So it's on at 4pm now... I'll have to check it out again.
I would have to say that boomerang has a nice feel to it. Though I'm not at all a fan of old school shit, I do enjoy watching some of it.

i like all the live action sub-saved by the bell wannabe shows like City Guys or SK8! or whatever the hell it is. Thank god I bought the Transformer's Season one box set, and the GI JOE movie (where are the seasons of JOE??). Plus I just got the Schoolhouse Rock discs (nicey nice). Plus, with all the Disney toons I got on DVD, plus we have the Cartoon Network and Boomerang channels, so hopefully, by the time she is eady for it, she will never have to experience the wasteland that is Saturday Morning non-Cartoons now...

sorry, meant to add in there that it's for my daughter. my bad
and why doesn't Disney count? I have the 'classic' disney toon sets, as well as most of the movies. as far as animated fare goes, i don't think it really gets much better...

Random thoughts:
-I was dead serious about the revolution thing. You think I haven't been plotting already??
-I really, really like some japanese animation. But I hate DBZ. And I can't STAND anything that ends w/ "mon."
- I like the book, but the Savage Dragon cartoon was god awful. As was WildCATS, but we won't get into that. . .
-Red7ine should be pimpslapped for saying he likes "City Guys."
-Disney may be evil and annoying. But, the animation is still top notch. And Atlantis kicked ass. As did Tarzan.
-I'm going out to pick up the Transformers Gen. 1 DVD. Right. Now.

Actually the independent channel shows the newer DBZ in Japanese. It's the episodes where the kid is a teenager and he's in high school. The spanish channel you're thinking of is galavision (I can't miss my show, El Chavo). Each channel is different depending on your cable company but the "I" channel is something like 16 on mine and "Action" is around 64. If you have direct tv, I don't think they have an "I" channel but "Action" is 532 and they're on eastern time so the anime usually starts around nine for those of you in the west coast.
By the way, the best disney toons (besides Gargoyles) are the educational films they did in the sixties; not counting the movies of course. If you want to see some great animation from disney check out Lilo and Stitch. I wasn't going to see this but my girlfriend made me and I thanked her for it. It was awesome.
BTW, they do show G.I. Joe on cartoon network every day around 1:30 in the morning so I'd set my vhs to record it if you want to catch them and can't stay up.

Ok I will admit that I did very much like gargoyles...
As for Lilo and stitch. I'm glad that I went to Kazaa.
oh and GIjoe I think is on at 1:00 am, not 1:30.

Man I loved Gargoyles and I loved other old Disney Carttons such as Aladdin, Chip 'n' Dale's Rescue Rangers (don't front), DuckTales( I said stop frontin'), Darkwing Duck.

I don't watch morning cartoons. The only cartoons on TV that I watch now are The Power Puff Girls and Spongebob, though i do miss watching Mad Max before I went to school every morning way back in the day.

Atlantis was a complete rip off of an old Jap anime series all the way down to the personality and the look of the characters. I would post the website that proved this, but I forgot where it was. I'm surprised the Jap company didn't sue.

I'm not disputing that, I've known all about that before Atlantis came out. The anime they ripped off was Nausicaa. All I said was that the animation was top notch. And it was.
