Man this is one of the funniest, powerhousiest battles I have ever seen on PJ. Great story and humor in both. Had to go with Sean in the end for the mythology take. AWESOME work from both you guys! WOW

What to choose? MJCurry's was weird yet intruiging but Sean's workmanship is pretty awesome.

The lettering kills mjcurry's entry for me.

I love the rendering on Marooney's.

I had every intention on voting for MJ Curry's entry when I firt saw it....it's great art...witty dialoge and smooth pacing are fantastic.....but Sean's art won me over by a very small microscopic hair.
If we were voting on story, It woulda been different.

I would like to point out that it's kinda racist to imply that only white people are racists. I would also like to point out that there is humor behind this statement.

Sean, this is the best work I think I have ever seen out of you. Well done.

I'm very relieved that I genuinely liked SCMarooney's better. That first one is so disturbing, yet superbly drawn, I would have felt dirty voting for it.

I had a better time reading MJCurry's but Marooney's art stands out to me more.

SC, your work is outstanding, my vote goes to you!

Felt that Marooney's panels had much better consistency and the lettering was easier to read.

MJ, there are a few panels on your pages where I look and say to myself "he nailed it," and then the quality jumps off the next panel or page. I think if you buttoned down a bit and worked on your consistency you would be golden. Keep pushing yourself, because these pages are better than your last ones.

These are both fantastic writing and art, but Marooney's won me over with the amazing renderings of the monsters.

Wow... this is the insane battle of the month! Both are incredible! Both made me laugh a lot. :)

Where MJ has a simpler style, it's not bad-simple. The lettering is really hard to read, and that's a strike against it. There is nudity, or at least implied nudity, I call that a plus! ;) But the individual art is hard to follow. The characters are somewhat inconsistent. MAN but this is a good piece.

Ultimately, though, I'm going with Marooney, for consistency and really stunning visual. (That shouldn't be read as a knock against you, man! I just can't add anything more than the others have! :D)

Went with Marooney for consistency, nice pencil rendering, and legibility.

I'd feel wrong voting for either one of you, meaning they both are so good that it sucks it can be a two vote thing. (there is a complement in there somewhere)

Voted SCMarooney.

But Marooney I really think this piece would have been better without the text. The pictures are amazing but that computer font and speech bubbles lets the picture down.

I'm gonna stand up for MJCurry's lettering! I like it and think it fits really well with the rest of the art. I've recently been reading more one-offs and smaller titles where lettering is being done in a much more hand-written style that goes with art, and I quite like it. I think his story needed to be lettered in handwriting that looks like it came from a serial killer.

Wassy's right...the lettering didn't detract at all from the story for me...it fits the mood of the story.

Sean, this is the best work I think I have ever seen out of you. Well done.

Thanks NYP! I appreciate the kind words and appreciate all the comments from everyone who has left one in this thread! Thanks also to MJCurry who came up with some really interesting pages!

Voted SCMarooney.

But Marooney I really think this piece would have been better without the text. The pictures are amazing but that computer font and speech bubbles lets the picture down.

I agree with you CD! I had a script laid out and was following it and am using GIMP to add the balloons and text to my artwork, but I can't seem to make them look as good as I would like to no matter how much I tinker with it :D! I used a sort of generic Ancient Greek font for the lettering and while it is heads and tails above my hand lettering (which is probably virtually illegible ;)!), it is still nothing special.

I think that MJCurry's choice of hand lettering, (even though it takes a bit more effort to read), really does add a sense of flavor to his pages that is probably missing in mine.

took me 3 days to finally choose...I really like both styles...Scmarooney has some top notch rendering in his piece, but I love the fluidity of Mjcurry's work...what a great HW battle...

finally sat down and read both

MJCurry's was fun. I swear I could hear saturday morning cartoon music while I was reading it. Personally, I'd like to see what else you can do besides cheesecake. Funny sambo joke, I am also of the negro community. (p.s. we can be racist too)

SCMarooney's was funny with epic visuals. Went with him because of those "A" game pencils.

Awesome work, guys

MJ's piece is nice and quirky, which I like. Despite very occasional anatomical issues, it kept my interest and I read the whole thing. SCMarooney's piece has some nice pencil renderings that I don't think I've seen from him before (I'm sure he's done it I just haven't seen it) but his works suffers from what I perceive to be his classic weakness. Rubbery limbs and joints. This is especially apparent in the Minotaur, but I have to say that the rest of the figures look a lot better, so it's nice to see that progression toward solid and convincing anatomy from SCMarooney.

MJ gets the vote.
