View Full Version : SF Yakari
Ok, it's been brewing for some time. I have some time off work coming up a few days before X-mas and a sh!tload of pummel going on but this'un has been an idea that just won't die on me. Solace expressed an interest in this so a bout is reserved for him if he wants it. If not, it's open for all takers.
Medium: pencils, inks, traditional medium. No fancy schmancy computer rendering or effects.
Subject: Yakari (my favorite li'l 'injun' from the treasures of European comics) and hopefully but not necessarily a host of the other characters - most notably Little Thunder.)
Deadline: Jan 15 2012
I'm putting on my war paint right now...
Hm, since Solace hasn't made a move this is open to any takers. :)

Checked out Yakari online. Looks like fun
I'll take the fight if you're still offering it.
Are you planning on sticking to a traditional style or are you going to mix it up a bit?
COOL! Thanks for joining! Yakari was one of my favorite comics growing up apart from asterix, the Smurfs, Buddy Longway, etc, etc. :) As for going traditional or not I haven't thought that far yet. I'll take it as it comes but if you want to tweak it or make it your own design that's fine as long as it's traditional medium. See you on Jan 15! :)

Ugh, how did I miss this? :( I'll do one anyway just for fun, I'm actually kind of excited that I'll get to see multiple takes on it since I missed out.
:( rerun later perhaps or another euro comic?

Maybe Metabaron (Or other L'Incal character?) or Blueberry somewhere down the line? I read Elephantmen (http://www.hipflask.com/elephantmen/preview.html) recently and it really made me want to do a Blacksad/Elephantmen crossover picture. There are a ton of possibilities.

January 15th it is. I'm looking forward to learning more about Yakari. I think I'll be sticking close to the original style. Looks like Yakari in his original form has lots to teach me.
Now, off to sketch.
It looks easy to draw but it's really difficult I think. Hope you find some books at the library or something. :)
Solace. Blueberry sounds intriguing!

Sounds good to me. I haven't read Blueberry in years, but I always liked the character. I'll have to dig some up before we get started so I can get reacquainted.
I can't say I'm proud of it but at least it's something. I'm anxiously awaiting to have my butt handed to me by sketchbook.

Well here's mine, and what an adventure on this one. I wound up doing a bunch of Yakari's and another full page pinup that I chickened out on inking. I'm going to post those to my sketch blog.
You were right about Yakari being deceptively difficult to draw. Thanks for the fight and thanks for introducing me to this character.

you did a bang up job on this one! It really is difficult especially since you have to try and adopt a specific style to make the character more recognizable. I'm glad you liked it. I had a really nice time reading up on some old comics. :)
