Weekly Sketch Group #233
Welcome to the Weekly Sketch Group! I continue to act as your guest-host while your regularly scheduled moderator, Manji, is hunting for the Treasure of the Sierra Madre (hint, he looks like the Bogart character ;)!) Reminder: Any PencilJack member can join this sketch group at any time. The sketch group is less about creating a masterpiece of 2 dimensional fidelity than just putting pencil to paper and improving week to week while drawing topics you otherwise might never draw! If anybody wants to see a specific topic or character featured in a future sketch group- just PM me the details and I'll do my best to include it in the next sketch group!
And now on to this week's wondiferous topics:
1. Sgt. Rock and the D.C. War Comics Characters: Draw MSgt. Frank Rock and his Easy Company soldiers, or any of the other DC War Comics characters ((Unknown Soldier, Enemy Ace, The Blackhawks, etc....)).
2. Musicians: (A requested topic, woot!) Draw any kind of Musician, Band, or operator of a musical instrument that strikes your fancy!
3. Original Character or Concept:
by Shaun
Mr. Swift vs. the Ash Zombies
Every Ash Wednesday Catholics have a cross of ash drawn on their forehead, but on one terrible Ash Wednesday the cross was drawn with the cremated remains of a hell beast. In a single day one sixth of the world’s population was converted into hideous demonic ash zombies called ashers. Ashers look similar to zombies though covered in a thick coat of white ash. Their skin is actually concentrated cinder, hard and brittle. They are fast moving, stronger than an average man and reasonably intelligent. Their jaws slack open and their pupils are jet black. They still bare the cross on their forehead, which now glows an unnatural hue.
Seeking them out is the last exorcist, Swift, an ex-marine and soldier of fortune. Mr. Swift is white, early 30’s and is a jeans and t-shirt type of exorcist. Apart from a simple rosary bead wrapped around his wrist he wears no religious items. He is, oddly enough, a practicing agnostic. He battles with a short sword and a small crossbow mounted on his forearm.
In this moment Swift has engaged an asher(s) in battle. As Swift slashes the demon with his blade, clumps of ash break away and the particles litter the air.
And there you have it, Ladies and Germs. Sharpen those pencils and keep sketchin'!

Sean, you keep hitting on subjects I wanna draw:-) I had been browsing car concept art for two weeks when last weeks WSG topics came out, and also planned to pull another musician this week for my portrait practice course:-)
Cool sketch, ditch.
In case I played lazy this week, here is a portrait of KT Tunstall from a few weeks back.

Double tap:-) I have never been that productive. Well, it's just because I ended up on sick leave today ...And put my time to good use, ie. put a second musician portrait together. So Tomi Joutsen from Amorphis, just to balance KT in style. :-)

Here's a quick one for this week... Enemy Ace... all that Prussian angst and self loathing.. what's not to like?!?! It could be more on-model and pushed a whole lot further... perhaps a few more sketches are in order... would like to get in The Unknown Soldier and Sgt. Rock as well..

@khmer: Nice job on the Enemy Ace sketches!
@Bat: Great job on the Sgt.Rock with the Tommy-helmet and the BB King is REALLY good!
@ekotek: Nice job on your Sid Vicious drawing!
And I was inspired by Bat's caricature of BB King to do a couple of caricatures of Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, one of the most prolific song writing duos of the 2nd half of the 20th century ;)!

People keep posting up good stuff and I see it and I go 'ooh! Damn.. ok where my pencil!!' :D Forcing me to get more done... very cunning this plan you guys!!
Here's my take on Sarge... a quicky... not entirely happy and yes I find drawing helmets on people to be a royal pain. No matter what you do they never look right. The size... the angle... ughh... whatever. It's on his head and that's that. Getting Rock to look like Rock is also another issue... random tough guy yes... Rock a la Kubert... no. Do not pass Go... do not collect $200. I'm gonna hit it again later tonight if I can get the time. :D
