Weekly Sketch Group #232
Welcome to the PencilJack Weekly Sketch Group! I'll be your host this week while your regularly scheduled moderator, Manji, is searching for the unified theory of everything. A friendly reminder: ANY PencilJack member can join the sketch group at ANY time. Just pick one of the topics below, make a sketch, and post it up for everyone to check out! If any of you want to see a specific topic or character featured in a future sketch group, PM me the details and I'll do my best to include it in the next sketch group!
And now on to this week's topics:
1. Legion of Superheroes: Draw any or all of the members of the Legion of Superheroes. Sketch your favorite(s)!
2. Automobiles (to include any motorized, wheeled, land-vehicles ;)): draw your dream car, favorite vehicles or even something more common that you saw on your way to work this morning!
3. Original Character or Concept:
by Billy Certain:
THE SHERLOCKIAN
Origin:
The Sherlockian was built by french scientist Doctor Arnaud Babe who is a gigantic fan of the Sherlock Holmes stories written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Built within the same era as Sherlock Holmes, the late 18th - early 19th century, it has a very steam punk like vibe. However, when Doctor Babe dies, The Sherlockian seeks to unravel the mystery and avenge Babe's death.
Details:
The Sherlockian has a metal smoking pipe attached to its mouth which acts like a ventilation shaft. It has a gate for its mouth as well, enabling its electronic vocal box to be able to speak. It also has a monocle and top hat, both metal. The Sherlockian can fly as well due to jet propulsion methods built into its feet. Its physique is tall and skinny, as Sherlock Holmes was.
Artists are welcome to add other touches to the character, like a suit jacket that would be fitting of the time, maybe a metallic mustache, and whatever else they want to add.
Powers/Weapons:
Though The Sherlockian has no powers so to speak, it has an artificial intelligence which was modeled after Sherlock Holmes, that classic "Holmesian Deduction". The Sherlockian is skilled in cane fighting. It carries both a walking cane and a revolver.
Sidekick:
The Sherlockian also has a pet robotic dog named Watson, also built by Babe. Its model reflects that of an English Bulldog.
And there you have it my fellow Sketch Groupers! Another week of amazing topics to sketch, so sharpen those pencils and look sharp!

^That rocks!
-To show I'm a good sport. I finished off all the topics again this week. Gotta give it to Marooney for picking fun topics, and stuff I'd never draw on my own. just what the WSG is for.
Sherlokian and Wats-1 on the case (just had to change that name):

and 'the HULK van' many a brawls were fought over ownership of this baby growing up. Funny how I always thought this was a real van, and never understood why I nerver saw one on the road. (referenced)

@NickGuy: Great sense of movement in that running-pose, nice job!
@Hyde: I knew you couldn't resist those other two topics ;)! Great job on the Sherlockian and that Hulk Hotwheels van brought back some memories (I had one just like it :D!)
@Bat: Cool Chameleon portrait! Glad to see you in the sketch group this week!
@Zippy: Nice job on the Sherlockian original character drawing!
And here's a quick automobile drawing-the DeLorean from Back to the Future. Messed the wheels up, should have drawn an actual perspective grid for this one ;)!

Here's a quick one that I might get around to reworking and inking. This was a quicky so there are some things that need work. But for now it is what it is.

Love the Steampunk genre and the character concept is pretty well done. It's of note that I was lame and couldn't follow the brief more tightly... jeez.. that's exactly the type of stuff that pisses off art directors! :D

I find it a little hilarious that Sherlokian is both near and far sighted and that a robot must employ the use of a monacle and a magnifine glass. Funny stuff.

One of my favorite vehicles of all time, Kaneda's bike from Akira. Tried a little digital and I know I have a long way to go but it was fun to use the Corel Painter 12 that just showed up for FREE from Corel Software. Never let it be said that those "retweet for a chance to win" tweets are bunk. Big thanks to @corelsoftware.

Haha, ah man. I forgot all about submitting a character to the weekly sketch group. My apologies!
But they look great, really. I've been reading the Sherlock Holmes stories again and a lot of you really nailed down what I had in mind. Love them. Sherlock Holmes is probably my favorite character in all of literature, so it's really awesome to see a somewhat new take on him. I'm just happy to have been apart of it.
I'm all giddy.
I find it a little hilarious that Sherlokian is both near and far sighted and that a robot must employ the use of a monacle and a magnifine glass. Funny stuff.
Yeah, I guess I didn't really think that out too well. I was in the motion of things, man! But it's mainly all just aesthetics anyway, haha.
