Weekly Sketch Group #231
Welcome to another PencilJack Weekly Sketch Group! I will be your host again this week while your regularly scheduled moderator, Manji, is away on his annual grail quest. Remember, any PencilJack member can join the sketch group at ANY time. Just pick one of the topics below, make a sketch, and post it up for everyone to check out! If any of you want to see a specific topic or character featured in a future sketch group, PM me the details and I'll do my best to include it in the next WSG!
And now on to this week's walloping topics:
1. Doctor Strange: Dr. Stephen Strange Master of the Mystic Arts
2. Hellcat: Patricia "Patsy" Walker
3. Original Character or Concept:
The human race is loosing a war between two hostile alien forces. But that doesn’t mean they are going to be giving up anytime soon. They will adapt and learn and fight to the death. Which is something their alien overlords would approve of…Anyway, none has tunred into a more fierce fighter than aka Coral. She was the girl next door, didn’t pay attention to school, paid too much attention to boys and when the sky fell and Earth was Breached she, like everyone else didn’t know what to do. But things have changed, years have gone by and now she is a battle hardened veteran of the few humans that are left.
By this point in time Coral is in her early twenties, keeps her hair short, wears a snowboarding helmet that says "Fa-Q" on the front. She wears goggles that look like they belong to a welder or doctor octopus, they can be dangling from her neck or covering her eyes. She has boots that she tapes around her ankles cause her shoe laces are being used to hold her pants up which are tattered cargo pants with lots of dirt caked on. Knee pads used for gardening. She wears a tank top under a heavy trench. Her gloves are the kind you would expect a homeless person to wear and her pride and joy is her HK MP5-10 which can be seen - HERE -
She is badass incarnate and the only time you’ll see her smile is when she’s blowing something up, killing something in her way or sleeping with whatever guy has the energy to give her her dues back at home base.
And there you have it my fellow Sketch Groupers! Another week of amazing topics to sketch, so sharpen those pencils and look sharp!

Doctor Strange I did on my iPhone. Never drawn on the phone before, pretty neat but it's going to take some serious getting used to.

And here is a super quick 10 minute sketch of HellCat done with a red pencil and a Pentel Sketch Pen that I snuck in while trying to get pages done for the Sequential Challenge:

Gah! I just realized that I forgot the knee pads! No matter, this is the first time I was brave enough to try and draw someones original concept here. I hope you guys like it!

Lets just pretend that they're under the pants. ;)
Really, they're more comfortable that way anyway.

Here's another marker sketch. Maybe I'll try for the hat trick this week. :)

I'm getting a cold and I feel crappy, but I still have to draw, so the weekly sketchgroup, again, gives me inspiration. Here's my take on Coral:
I changed a few things from the description - most notably the gun and helmet. The gun I gave her is a H&K G36 carbine. The reason is because the 10mm cartridge the MP5/10 fires is rare and would be difficult to get ahold of in a post apocalyptic world. She'd most certainly acquire a weapon firing the most plentiful cartridge in NATO countries (the USA and most of Europe), the 5.56mm NATO ball. Not only is the cartridge widespread, but many magazines that fire this cartridge are interchangeable. I'm not certain if the G36 magwell fits a M4 mag, but it's a good bet it does. The G36 is ultra modern and is not easily fouled because of its simple push rod firing mechanism. The MP5 family is notoriously complex, using the old H&K roller block method. It has many moving parts and is not designed for the rough use an untrained operator would put on it.
I changed the helmet because a graphite helmet is just useless. A special forces kevlar helmet at least offers some serious protection. I'm sure she could have found one, considering she'd likely run into more dead soldiers than well-stocked sporting goods stores.
So, I took some liberties, but they make sense. Enjoy!

Quit rockin' the boat, Alex!
