Weekly Sketch Group #216
Welcome to Wild and Wooly Weekly Sketch Group #216! I'm your long-term, fill-in, Sketch Group Moderator this week while Manji is programming the Matrix to use us all as 9 volt batteries to power our computer overlords ;). The sketch group is open to anybody who wants to post up a sketch or drawing of one of this weeks topics. And speaking of topics: if you have any fantastic topics you would like to draw next week, or see your fellow artists take a crack at, PM me the details and I'll try to include it in the next weeks list of topics.
And now on to this week's Terrific Topics! You might have noticed that a major summer blockbuster is coming out on the 22nd, and so this week's topics are heavily influenced by a certain star-spangled hero who throws his mighty shield:
1.Captain America(`nuff said)
2. The Fearsome Foes of Captain America: (The Red Skull, Baron Zemo (either one), Batroc ze leaper, Arnim Zola, Master Man, Warrior Woman, Baron Von Strucker, Hydra, etc.)
3. Nick Fury and his Howling Commandos
4. The Hot Babes and Femme Fatales of the Captain America Comic: (Sharon Carter, Black Widow, Madame Hydra/Viper, Mother Night, Sin, etc....)
And there you have it, my fellow Sketch Groupers! Sharpen those pencils and watch out for flying shields, `cause those things HURT when they whack you in the kisser:p!

I'm with paladis. Sean, your work continues to get better and better. You have a strong work ethic, I can tell. You post a lot of drawings each week, and that tells me that you enjoy drawing. That's what it takes to become good at it--you have to love doing it. You have to draw all the time. And when you do, you get better at it each time. I expect great things from you, man. Marvelous things. :)

Thanks paladis! Keep drawing as much as you can find time for and you'll see improvement in no time! I always try to tell the people who look over my shoulder and ask "how do you do that?" that it's just like anything else you practice doing, the more you do it, the better you get! (they never seem to believe me, though. I'm sure many of you have similar experiences with the looky-loos ;)!)

Wow, thanks Loston! I draw because I do like doing it, but also because I'm so broke and it doesn't cost anything (well, except for paper and some pencils) ;)! I will definitely credit much of my growth to participating here on PJ and from the encouragement of much better artists than myself, artists like Loston Wallace, and Alex (Hades), Dave Bovey, Beastie, and...... Well, you get the idea; There is a great community of artists willing to help other artists here on PJ.
@girdoggy: way to keep the markers moving this weeek!
@HunterGreen: Way to keep that pencil moving!
@MJames: Nice Cap portrait, nice 3-dimensionality in your colors!
@alex: Cool Strucker!

SCMAROONEY, do you do allot of drawing in public, sketching the folks around you? Its still something I am not comfortable with...but the few times I have done it it was a great experience.
I stopped drawing for a few months, got discouraged. But now I'm attacking it from several different angles. Actually did a few life drawing classes over the last few weeks which were allot of fun and I plan on doing those as much as I can.

I do some drawing like this, but like to be a bit low-key. I generally go to a place like a library or somewhere quiet to draw if I need a change of pace. Not many interesting poses in the library ;) when I was working a full-time gig, on the phones or whatever, I would often bring a sketch book or a pad of bristol paper and do a drawing akin to the ones I do here.
Routine and regularity are the key to improvement (IMO). Try not to get too discouraged, keep posting and use some of the sketch forums for extra help if you need a draw-over or something like that. The life-drawing classes sound like a great idea. Wish I had the money to do them ;)!
