I would shave time off the drawing time. The part that takes me the longest is getting to a big scanner and back to photoshop then to the library to send it in. Really though, it only matters in the picking of the topic then no biggie. The trick I guess is making sure people are not no shows one way or the other.

Ok here is my 1000 post.

I am not sure about 'most' professional comicbook artist not having a real job. If they artist is just starting out at one of the big companies he would make in the neiborhood of 100 dollars a page. That works out to a whole 26000 a year, if and that is a big if he is doing 12 book a year. I don't know about where you guys live but 26k in this area won't get you an apartment.

Shoot, Korea is seriously expensive - at least Seoul is. On par with most of the other major cities in the world.
And yeah, I was thinking about animations when I said that... concept design is Western, but the guts of it are often done over here.

I'm quite stoked for this month. I've watched Ekotek climb through the ranks and eat nearly everyone in his path. His panels improve every month, and it's cool to be able to note the changes.

That being said though, I've already laid out my roughs, and I've got 3 pages minimum that I plan to have done. He won't be getting an easy with out of this (despite the tally in my signature).

Ive read pros basically work one 1 page per day, which totally sounds realistic.

Animation has alwAys been farmed to asia since the 80s so thats no biggie.

For me when choosing topics i try to choose something that i wanna see the other guy do that he might excel at n try to top him. Like choosing hellboy with latino machete n with marooney, hulk. That becomes motivation for me. Since i started to take more time on my pummel stuff i give myself a week before n spend 2-3 days knocking it out, another 2-3 for finishing touches.

The biggest thing with pummel is because of the fixed deadline im less impatient in posting it up so it slows down my process to where i make more room for improvement.

I work 10 houras at day, that leaves me almost not time to draw, except in my days off. (6 working days then 2 days off) December was a hard time to finish my piece I have a break only the 10th and the 25th, that's why I posted on the pencill stage.

I had the chance few years ago to work as a "pro" drawing comics for a local company (mostly westerns and erotic comics) the payment here is not really high, around 150 pesos per page at the best, that means 76 pages x 150 pesos = 11400 pesos / 12.50 peso per dollar = $912.00 per comic that I should finish one every three or four weeks. Here in Mexico that amount is good money, so 26K are very welcome!! and instead to do 76 pages they would ask only 22. Who is hiring :D ?

1 page at day is not that much, but we know better that the planning takes time (drawing sketchs, getting the proper references, etc) before we move into drawing the real page. I usually finish mine in one day, and to save time I do the planning part when I come back home from work.
The best on Pummel is that it forces me to draw, when I'm all tired up and I just want to lay over my couch.

@all --- drawing one page a month might seem easy but you have to add in all the time you would spend looking for referances and such. And real life issues. hell we have a hard time here doing one page on time. The pro that I have been around could do five to seven ruff layouts in a day then start to look for references if they needed them. (Cars buildings, dresses) they they tweek the pages. God forbit they have tp take time out of the day to buy a new light bulb for the light box or run out of ink or have computer issues.

Believe it man, some comics used to have 128 pages that we have to finish in two months!! of course there were some teams of three or four artists doing one of these monsters books every week just to feed the editors tight schedule. I work in some sort of studio with other two artist working on two or three bokks monthly, it was fun, but also demanding. I miss that. The editorial industry here is almost dead.

No one ever said it was okay for Turnbolt to use photoshoped photos and no one (aside from the guy who he was actually competing against in said incident) crowded around him for support, man. You know what gets me here is that you don't realize the difference between someone who admits to a mistake and someone who continues to deny that any "homage" took place. If you are leaving then leave, but it isn't our attitude that is sending you packing. It is yours. He'll you are leaving and Epic is being welcome it kind of seems ironic to me.

I am pissed at myself because i had a ton of panels done on these early in the month so i slacked, then my mother twisted her knee saturday so i spent saturday and part of sunday in the hospital with her then most of the last two days running her from doctor to doctor so she can have a knee replacement 2 tuesdays from now. this is not what i wanted but this is what i have now, and i have no computer internet access later.

Looks to me like the hardware/software upgrade that was done today is making all image posts the same size(?) - and adding a horizontal scrollbar - anyone else notice that too?

ya i wondered what that was. i thought it was just the computer i was using. If they all post the same size that would be great. i know i had a few battles where one of the pieces was much smaller than the other and the smaller one lost every time.

Yeah, I'd be all for images being scaled similarly as long as no distortions or cropping occurs - I don't like the idea of having the image be cut off on the right-hand side, forcing a scroll to see all of it, though...

hmmmm...interesting...I just scaled my images down from 790x1197(approx.) to 650x985(approx.), and now they aren't forcing the horizontal scrollbar...maybe it is dependent on the original size...?

Well, it depends on how long you've been gone for. If you've only been gone for a month or two, you will rejoin at a rank that would reflect consequtive NO SHOWS. But if it's around the 3-4 month mark, you can just rejoin the class at the bottom. If it's any longer than that, you should consider a new weigh in. Contact a commissioner for ideas.

One of those cases where what was put up in the weighing did not match up to what the artist was actually fully capable of. Heck one of his pieces was a stand alone anime character piece, and an unfinished penciled piece.
