View Full Version : Movies that never get old

My fiancee and I watched Mike Judge's "Extract" today (which was better than Idiocracy but not quite as good as Office Space), and that got me thinking about how Office Space is one of those movies that, no matter how many times I've seen it... if it's on TV I can sit and watch it all the way to the end. Do you have any movies like that?
Other movies that I can watch again and again without getting sick of them:
The first Ghostbusters (and let's face it, I could probably sit and watch the second one too)
The first Matrix
Any of the original Star Wars
Any of the first three Indiana Jones
The first Jurassic Park
Any of the Back to the Futures
Any of the Toy Story movies, Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Monsters Inc.
Keep in mind, this is not a list of the movies you think are the "best ever," these are merely the movies you can watch again and again. They don't even have to be that great, they just have to be endlessly entertaining.

All of Scott's Dave's and blamito's lists, plus The Last Boyscout, Die Hard, Die Hard With A Vengeance and Lethal Weapon 1 and 3. And Top Gun. And Aliens. And Predator.
OK...I think I'm done.
Oh, and Bladerunner, but then, that's my favorite movie of all time, so it never gets old for me.

I could go on all day and probably list at least two hundred films by the end of my list... but if I had to pick five for a desert island...
The Departed
Goodfellas
Tombstone

Again there about a hundred more... but these would fall very high on the list.
Oh Hell let's make it ten...

Reservoir Dogs
Swingers

Howl's Moving Castle
Nice to see Miyazaki get a nod here. In truth, ALL of his films are in heavy rotation in our house. My youngest son's favorite is Nausicaa, and my oldest's is Monoke Hime. My favorite will always be Totoro, with Spirited Away in a very close second.

wow, how old is your youngest son?
I think Nausicaa is pretty hard to understand for a kid but still a beautiful movie!!
My favorites are Mononoke and Totoro. I always wanted to see his short-movies which you can only see in the studio ghibli museum in tokyo :( :(

Sorta surprised no one's mentioned Shawshank Redemption yet, so I'll add it, along with Kung-Fu Hustle, JAWS and The Goonies.

A few that haven't been mentioned:
Hackers (I will always sit and watch this movie if it's on - I'm weird that way)
Sneakers (Redford, Kingsley, Poitier, Akroyd, Phoenix, and the guy that plays "Mother" - all fantastic in that film and always watchable).
And a pair of presidential movies:
Dave
The American President
Beastie
09-14-2010, 02:10 AM
Groundhog Day
ET
Home Alone
Jaws
They're the ones that pop straight into my head (without reading through what everyone else wrote....)
After reading through the previous entries - I am shocked that I forgot the Shawshank Redemption. That film will NEVER die. I love it.
And, just to add one more - my favourite superhero related film in the entire world ---- SPECIAL. Ugh. Its so awesome that even the thought of it makes me want to leave my office, go home and watch it immediately.

I've seen Princess Bride more times over the years than could possibly be healthy. (And again, this past Wednesday even) :[ Heh, at least I'm not the only one apparently.
I think I've seen Nightmare Before Christmas far too many times as well.
I've seen Princess Bride more times over the years than could possibly be healthy. (And again, this past Wednesday even) :[ Heh, at least I'm not the only one apparently.
My obsession with the Princess Bride is crazy unhealthy. I own 6 copies of that flick. An old VHS that my mom taped off of HBO at a friend's house when I was 4 (we were dirt poor then), some VHS copy my mom bought me when I was 8 or 9 when the taped copy was thought to be lost. An anniversary VHS copy. Both the Buttercup and the Dread Pirate Roberts editions of the DVD (which have NO differences in bonus materials save the box art) and just recently I bought the flick on Blue Ray. Just the other day I was in a Games by James and saw they came out with a board game recently of the Princess Bride. OF COURSE I bought it on the spot.
So yeah....Princess Bride....great flick.
