yup, saw that a week ago.

As a parent, it's one of my biggest fears - espcially living here in Korea.. they drive like mad here.

Okay, I could only watch about two minutes of that. I can't take the rest.

Watching that just confirms what I've known for decades. Humans are stupid, selfish assholes. And innocent, good people pay the price.

The thing that bugs me about that whole video, though, is the end message. "Drive Safely." What they seem to have missed is that it doesn't matter how safe I drive; a commercial truck driver who takes his eyes off the road for one second will kill me and my family instantly. One moron on her cell phone arguing with her boyfriend and my kids could be history. The people that this message is for, the people that drive like careless idiots, know what they're doing. They don't give a ****. That's the main problem. As a society, we've begun to care less and less about our fellow man. I live in a small town and there are still people who will just blow through red lights, or tear through a residential area without the slightest regard for anyone else. Videos like this don't do anything other than scare the shit out of the people that do the right thing. The people that it should affect are already soulless. They wouldn't blink at this.

It's sad but I agree with Popninja.. people who already drive reckless don't really give a damn. It would take more than a video to change their attitude.

True. People are going to do what they're going to do. I just hope I'm not near them when they do it.

The problem is that it's not like we can pinpoint who the reckless drivers are. There may be a higher percentage of kids that drive reckless, but even adults drive reckless when they are late for work/meeting/event or other circumstance. Everyone's driven reckless at one point in their lives because they reason out that they need to get somewhere fast. Someone who has been a careful driver all their lives could accidentally get careless tomorrow and that one time causes a major disaster. There's nothing you can do about that.

Digital Klown
08-18-2010, 11:29 AM
That's true.. but someone who drives reckless all the time is probably in greater risk of getting into an accident than someone who "accidentally" gets careless once in a while.

Yep. That video didn't convince me to a better driver, it convinced me that the people I love are one text message away from being taken away from me forever. I couldn't make it more than two minutes in without wanting to slit my wrists.

I'm surprised they didn't include the clip where that one truck just plows through like 15 cars and it's all recorded on like 4 different cameras on the truck. I am always interested in those faked crash commercials, they usually have incredible special effects.

Also, yeah these commercials show being a good/defensive driver is futile. But alot of people that drive stupid are stupid and don't realize that kind of shit can happen. Mainly the texting drivers.

I understand your frustration, Pop. Driving safely unfortunately can't just mean obey the rules yourself... because others simply don't.

I work on fire/rescue here in Jacksonville and my Engine is a Heavy Engine which means we do alot of extrications (when we go to wrecks and cut open cars that people are trapped in). I've seen the aftermath of scenarios very similar to the ones in this video and worse.

You're right, Pop... people are selfish assholes...but driving safely is still possible if you drive defensively. I do it every day. Like my father always told me, "It's not you. It's the other guy you have to watch." and he couldn't be more correct.

Everyone... don't just stay in your lane and stop at lights... do more... be aware of the drivers around you... notice when someone is swerving or weaving or blowing lights... Anticipate the possibilities ahead.

And if I may be so bold... leave the damn cell phone alone until you are where you are going and stopped... I can't tell you how many folks drive in front of the fire engine like it's Sunday in the park on their phone while we are behind them jammed up with our lights and siren on and our airhorn blowing. If you can't see us behind you when you are on your phone then just think of what else you aren't paying attention to!

Unfortunately we now live in a world where we all have to look out for ourselves by watching everyone around us... but I don't ever want to hear of anyone I know personally... or even anyone I see here on the boards getting hurt or killed because of foolishness behind the wheel of a car.

Please watch the other drivers around you and be prepared to handle situations in case they come up. Please wear your seatbelts. Please everyone, be careful out there.

The worst part about all of this is that the world CANNOT get better without a purge and nearly cleaning the slate. AT LEAST 90% of the world's population would need to be killed in order to start anew. It's the ****ing system that the world abides by. Without getting rid of that system, and nearly all of the people that represent said system the world will continue to crumble. People just don't give a **** anymore unless they can benefit from it or if they do care they don't do shit.

One example of people's bull:

Someone says "don't waste that food, some kid would be grateful for it / it pollutes our environment."

Now think about the REALITY of it:

a) the more food we eat/waste the more we buy, which in turn helps the economy.

b) most food biodegrades, it's the container's that are the more important issue.

c) WHEN HAS THE ****ING U.S.A. EVER SHIPPED FOOD FOR RELIEF TO KIDS FOR THE KINDNESS OF IT AND NOT THE P.R.

Right now 2012 is my best friend. Let's hope it doesn't kill all the good people if it decides to attack.

Twasnt sure what kinda reaction this would get. I commute to work. It takes me about 1 hour straight freeway time. sometimes I am quite sleepy. I normally drive no faster than 65 mph and keep at least 3 car spaces between me and the car in front mof me. So I normally drive safely I think. but what this video did was make me aware of what I was doing the whole ride instead of being complacent. Most people are selfish. if there's a traffic jam due to an accident most people dont even think about the fact that someone may have died. all they think about is that they are gonna be stuck in traffic. Its too bad

Wow... just wow... I'm hearing crazy talk from PJ members, words I'd never thought I'd ever here from them. The first 2 minute's are the most graphical but the rest is not as bad. Most of the close up graphical parts are acting and not real footage. This does send a very strong message to careless drivers.

I wonder do YouTube have the accident footage they show me in high school. Man oh man we had to get written permission from our parent at the time before even seeing this movie, I can't remember the name of it. It showed peoples jaws missing, eye missing, kneecaps missing, body parts on the freeway and lots of body's getting remove from the car by the firefighter. People was balling out the class room before the movie was even done. Some of the motorcycle accidents were the most memorable. A great reason why I never ride on those things. If you seen what a 100 mph can do to the human body on just a motorcycle you would think the something.

Sandman... buddy... I think you need to go refill the old prescription there...

I understand that alot of people suck balls... I do.

We can't give up on the world... we (assuming "we" are good people) have to continue to hold our ground... what little we have.

Make small changes in your community... help one person each day... better yourself and lead by example... killing everyone would be an easy solution... and to be honest, it would be hard for me to work up much sympathy for most of them... but it's important to have hope... and to have compassion.

I only have a few friends, because I only have friends who are genuine. Because of this, I know my friends are good, kind, decent people. It gives me hope, because there must be some good folks in the world if all of my friends are good folks... they can't be the only ones.

I hate trying to sound optimistic, because I think it's lame... HAHAHA! But there are other ways, without the "cleansing bolt from Val Halla"... if good people would stop hiding in corners and pointing out all the bad... and stand up and take the reigns... maybe it could turn around.

Big driving dangers/annoyances that have popped up in the last 10 years like SUVs that obscure the road and cellphones/Blackberries were elements I didn't have to deal with when I was first driving.

Still, Left-Lane Dicks are my biggest pet-peeve on the road.

If you want to drive slow (or the speed limit, which I consider slow), then stay out of the passing lane !

I think if people drove in the proper-lane, everything else would fall into place.

Yep ... that is me for sure. Honestly, I have managed to drive RIGHT out of not ONE but TWO of those big muti pill up accidents without so much as a scratch on my car. One where a guy cut off a transport and he got clipped and was on the grill when the truck came crashing through the median and came within 5 feet of Tboning me. The other I had a Van ride the center median and flip over my hood and there it went 17 cars and I drove out of it. BUT ALL of that was before I was married and I had no kids. This stuff scares the hell out of me. I think that ALL new drivers should have to watch this video, and anyone who gets busted for careless driving needs to be shown this.

A lot of people are too stupid to drive cars.

A lot of people are too stupid to have kids.

Sometimes those groups of people overlap - and you come face to face with the unfortunate future of our world.

This morning, for instance, I found myself sitting at traffic lights next to a bright pink car that was being driven by a woman who was talking on her phone whilst holding a cigarette in the same hand at the same time. The guy sitting in the passenger seat was shirtless and had a cheap tattoo on his arm which featured a slightly deformed looking dog of some sort. He was also smoking. They both looked to be only around 18-21 years old. Neither of them were wearing seat belts. There were 2 little kids (must've been about 3 or 4 years old?) standing on the backseat and reaching forward between the two front seats to try and get their mother's attention.

THAT is what scares me.

The stupid ones breed faster than the clever ones.

We're going to be over-run with these mentally challenged baby-making machines in the next 40-50 years.

I've seen my professor drive very badly at my own collage's parking lot. One guy I worked with had a mental handicap that made it hard for him to multitask but when he drives he drives slowly and is always looking forward, almost like if he was on ritalin. He drive's very well when I was in the passenger seat.

Makes me think that people have to much on there mind and to little focus wile trying to drive and not doing something as simple as focusing a head and looking in front to see were they are driving. To top it off people get less sleep as there grand father did (less focus) and have far to many toys (cell phone's) on them all the time. Hopefully GPS automatic driving automobiles will be out soon.

Smart people can perform badly if they do not have focus. Focus is the backbone of the mind it self.

Funny thing is that sometimes the U.S. Ships things like seed and produce but they sit in port because other countries are afraid of genetically modified food. Which is funny because a lot of what you eat that you think is organic is probably modified from it's original source. Anyways it a video like this might seem depressing especially to those of us who try(it's impossible to say you are) to be a safe driver, but if it causes one person to drive more defensivly hopefully it's worth it. Hopefully it saves a few lives. I remember reading a short story in the 10th grade about some kid who went to get his license and was put in a virtual reality. In it his car blew a tire and he swerved into oncoming traffic and killed a family. When they woke him he was shaken and disturbed and he went to the counter to get his license. He took it and was taken away by two guys in white jackets because you don't want a license after that.

Kind of sticks with you like Mc Donald's.

I know man, and the US should fix that if the citizens want to complain about the kids in 3rd world countries, but REAL organic food is too expensive and a dying kid isn't worth it. It's about the money in this world, nothing else and anyone that ACTUALLY believes the world can be saved by other means besides a purge is naive. Something I wish I still was.

It's not about not caring about dying children, organic food is way more expensive to grow and there's no evidence that it's safer or better for you. The problem is that people in third world countries, like oqnet said, are afraid of GMO foods because of misinformation. And yeah, ALL of our food is genetically modified and has been for hundreds (or in some cases thousands) of years. The food we grow today does not exist in the wild, it was selectively bred for centuries to be bigger and tastier and more resistant to pests. The fact that we now have the ability to do it more easily and quickly through genetic engineering does not make it any less safe.

We literally cannot feed the entire world with organic food. If we want to give food and the ability to grow food to the third world, we have to use GMO crops.

And please stop with the "purging" shit.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear earlier on the food, I'm more than aware that it sucks, and that I eat genetically modded food daily. I think that if we grew it FOR them the way they wish and phased it into GM food they would benefit, but we would have to lie to do that so it's really a lose-lose .
