Man, I wish I was from the future.
is the economy any better? The gold standard has been replaced by system of exchange based on obscure pop culture trivia. The global economy is now saved, and I'm worth 2 million Monkees B-sides.

Man.. I thought my year was gonna end on a high note but a bunch of BS managed to slip in the last minute and now I'm back where I started. Oh well. Here's hoping 2010 is a better year for everyone. Cheers.

Happy new year everyone.
After celebrating the millenium, this decade is a bit of an anti-climax.
Seriously tho, I'm looking forward to 2011. 2010 doesn't look like it'll be a good year for me. Sorta wish I had the remote from click. A fast forward would be nice.

2010 is the year I’ll start focusing on job security and more stable income. Any freelance concept art, flash web design, programming, and comic work are going to have to take a back seat this year. A man’s got to do what a man’s got to do.

In the future we will all live in beautiful cities like this:
http://www.yume.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2007/01/port11.jpg
Everything will be one big shopping mall, and we'll have Lifeclocks on our hands that glow, and we can all wear togas 24/7:

I spent my midnight stepping out of my plane into the Montreal Terminal. However, I always plan ahead: I had my drinks on the plane before touchdown.
...silly man. What am I saying, "plane". I, of course, meant "personal spaceship". Complete with rayguns and aliens on my tail.

Are we pronouncing it "twenty-ten" or "two-thousand and ten"? Quick, let's come to a consensus.
Inkthinker
01-01-2010, 09:10 PM
I've been using both.
I feel like "twenty-ten" is more casual than two-thousand-and-ten" or even "two-thousand-ten". So like, if I'm listing out a whole date I want to use the extended term. Whereas if I'm just naming the year, the short form works.
What year is it? Twenty-ten.
When did the aliens arrive? On April the first, two-thousand-and-ten.
The future just got here. Let's not act like that aint a big deal.
TWENTY.
TEN.

What I really want to know is how to refer to the decade that just passed? It's not as easy as saying 80s or 90s. Do we say singles? O's? As is oh-seven, oh-eight, etc.
As for the twenty/two thousand debate; did you ever read off the year 1945 as "one thousand nine hundred forty five?" I think it's been established that twenty ten would be the popular choice.

i cant wait for "i love the 00s Reloaded"!!
Fixed that for ya. :D
Spidey, I was wondering the same thing. People who lived through this decade may say "Oh-one", or whatever but what about 70 years from now? Will it be "Twenty Oh-one"? Lots of stuff happened in this decade. I don't think I've ever really heard anyone refrence the first few decades of the last millennium by the year.

Simpson’s are still on and the next Indiana Jones will be out soon. 2010.

That lasted for like a month or two in the 1910's but it didn't even stick then. You're supposed to call them the "aughts".
Inkthinker
01-03-2010, 03:30 PM
I'll go for the "aughts" or even the "naughts", but no way in hell will I call 'em "the naughties", especially in tune with some grin-faced peroxide TV anchor-monkey.

I agree with Ink, 'noughts' sounds fine. (Noughties is 'tarded.)
'Twenty-ten' sounds off to me. Maybe it's because in my native language we say the equivalent of 'two thousand and ten' in full that it sounds to me that way.

Pantaloon is a fine word. It's no "plinth" mind you, or "egad".
How does the Star Trek calendar work? I think today might be twenty-ten point oh one one.

I'm not quite sure what I meant by that explanation, but a lot of people have indicated it makes sense. If so, I've been lucky again, and I'd just as soon forget the whole thing before I'm asked any further questions about it. hahaha - good stuff. The later writers made some sense out of it, but that quote is pretty funny. Thanks.
